Our club has just acquired some nice, foam target butts which look like they will be long lasting.

However, they are tough to get an arrow out of them.

Even my 30# and 35# target bows ink a carbon or aluminium arrow into them enough to make removal a bit difficult.

I returned to archery in the spring of 2018 after a 14 year layoff.

I used to use a product that was very effective BUT, I don't recall what it was :(

It seems to me it was a common, household product that was cheap, effective, lasted a while and was not messy. Too good to be true, perhaps; but, I wish I could recall what it was.

Rub bar soap on the last 2-3" of your arrow.

Veiner Schleider. It's a German product like Vaseline.

I have used the stuff for cleaning tires to make them look new and shiny black again and it seems to work well. It's some kind of silicone which dries residue free. I don't think the brand makes much difference. Something like Rain-X may work as well or try just a plain dry silicone spray.

Furniture wax works great also WD40

Small bar of ivory soap. Like the motel kind.

Just rub it on the point before you shoot, and your arrows will pull with ease.

Pledge spray furniture polish. ("Lemon Pledge" ), or store brand/generic. Slippery stuff. So you were correct, it was a household product.

Great to use on vinyl window tracks for easier opening/closing too.

The problem is that if the shaft is lubed. It will also penetrate deeper. Think about getting a "rubber" arrow puller to get a better grips on the shaft.

I also spray "Pledge" on my my finger tab to let the bow string slide off smoothly on release.

...I also spray Pledge on my bowstring serving area where I would be in contact with my tab.

Couple of spray coats on the tab and serving/server area.

You can also spray it into a door lock or on your car/house keys to lube the tumblers in the lock, or vehicle ignition for easy turning.

The household lube stuff sounds good but be careful that it DOESN'T mess up the foam targets or cause damage??

Another fan of Scorpion Venom here. Just wipe a small amount on the first 2 to 3 inches of the shaft and you will no longer have that issue. I don't recall what it cost but was not much. One bottle has lasted for years and is still going strong.

Silicon spray. DRB had it in holders along the range. It makes your glove or tab slick too.

Silicon spray, any tire or rubber dressing all are much cheaper than the archery stuff. Work great for the 3D targets. A small container,I use a film canister, lined with foam, cotton, etc. A couple of sprays from the big container then just shove the first inch or so in it. Not too far are they will be too slick to pull.>>>----> Ken

I take the small bars of soap from hotels. They are perfect size to fit in your quiver and they are easy to handle. Works great.

Take a plastic tube like what florists use on the stem end of flowers. Put a mix of water and Dawn in the tube. Put the point end of your arrow in the mix and the rubber stopper on the end acts as a squeegie. Or put a length of small diameter PVC pipe with water/Dawn mixture in the ground at each target. Put a piece of sponge into the top of the pipe making sure the sponge fits tight. Have a hole in the sponge for the arrows.

Small tube of Arrow Snot. Doesn't work better than soap but it's fun to know it really exists. ??

Woody's arrow lube. Works great and a bottle last for years. I lube my arrows about every 5th target.

Yes, that does sound familiar, that was likely what I used to use.

"Veiner schleider", good one George!

I can't comment further. I spent 42 years in the petroleum exploration, drilling and production operations and honed my humor and vocabulary there.

I could find myself banned ;)
