Nice! Is it like the stall mats of same dimensions available at tractor supply for about $45? How hard is it to cut to shape? Thanks for sharing this creative idea.

That is fantastic. It is important to practice on large targets like that. The huge critters can appear to be so much closer.>>>-----> Ken

Forester, I bought that mat from Tractor Supply for $36.99. I used a jigsaw to cut the pattern out. It is not easy but it is doable. The hardest part is getting the mat into a position where you can cut on it. I recommend laying it on a table so that the center of the mat is supported. Move the edge that you want to cut off the side of the table and start sawing.
Field points will stick into this target sometimes and can be a real pain to pull out. I keep a can of WD-40 handy for such an occasion. Spray the point and part of the shaft that might have penetrated and slowly pull the arrow out of the target.
If anybody wants the plans for the target and/or target stand, just PM me with your email address and I will be happy to share them with you.

Dan, I still have my original target but it's been laying out in the sun for 4 years. It was pretty shot up and I don't think the exposure to the elements did it any favors. I imagine it has a bad case of dry rot. I need to get off my lazy backside, cut it up, and dispose of it.

Forester, I've never shot broadheads at it but I don't imagine it would work very well. A field point will penetrate the rubber occasionally so I'm sure a broadhead would slice right through it.

I like it! Good job using available resources as well. Broadheads do slice through the stall mats, it may pinch against the shaft enough to not allow a complete pass through, but then it becomes a pain in the rear to get the arrow out.

Think I will try it and just stick to shooting it with field points. Going elk hunting this fall. Haven't been since the early 70's and want to practice on life size target. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Wojo14 ( Jason ) has a nice home made full body ( except no antlers ) moose target in his yard. I got to shoot at it a few weeks ago. Lots of fun shooting at it. Maybe Wojo14 will post a picture of it.

Nice....I thought I was crushing it with a giant piece of cardboard and some dark spray paint stood in front of my target....guess not...lol
I`m a firm believer in shooting at a animal shaped target when going on a special hunt....even if it is only cardboard.
