Fathers day weekend, the All traditional 3d shoot Coon Rapids MN (actually Andover).

For those who can get there they always put on a great 3d shoot, with a fair supply of vendors. Three 20 target loops in great setting.

That brings back memories. I was at that 3D shoot in 1994. I ended up buying a great shooting 45lb Bear Grizzly from Lamont Grainger for $45. Also a good supply of "seconds" tapered cedars for stumping from Jim Curlee for a dollar each.

The 3D target course was a lot of fun, people were very friendly and the weather was hot.

Andover got it's name because I could shoot that course over and over and over;)

Fun time and never miss it!

Used to shoot there every year until it was moved to the poison ivy patch!

I look forward to this shoot every year! At least 4 of us, that I know of, from the Mankato area going. It could be 5 if Frisky would man up, but he probably doesn't want to hurt our self esteem with his fanciful shooting abilities!

SB - That was a long time ago. The club has been very aggressive spraying poison ivy the last 5 to 6 years. And all three courses were sprayed beginning 2 weeks ago with the last spraying this Monday. The individuals responsible for setting up each course marked each course, shooting stations and target stations with flags. Two of us went though each course with a ATV and 25 gallon tank spraying ivy. We sprayed 100 gallons. Did we miss a few plants, probably a few but I challenge anyone to do it any better. The club continues the war on poison ivy and has committed a lot of $$$ with purchasing a ATV, a trailer to haul a 50 gallon tank with gasoline motor and a 25 gallon tank to carry on the back of the ATV that works off a electric pump.

I'd clean house on the crowd if I went. However, I have work to be done on my form at a superior range, Legend's Range, in my driveway.

Just hope the weather forecast is wrong for you. It shows rain both days.

In my opinion the old range and facilities at Bunker Hill was much nicer than where they were forced to move to. I shot the new location once or twice..didn't much care for it compared to the old range. But...maybe things are different now. I have no desire to drive thru the twin cities trying to find it. I always got lost trying to find the new spot

Well I can't argue with SB. If you live north of the "Cities" it's not a problem, but it is a lousy drive in from anywhere else, and there is no such thing in the "Cities" as a completed road, my GPS can't even get me there.

I have been going almost every year since the beginning. The old course was very nice but the present location ( a few minutes from the old course) is also a very good course and set up very well. I have never had a problem with poison ivy and try going anywhere now days without running into road construction!

SB - Tell me about any other archery range in the state of MN that has a better facility with a kitchen and area for vendors and can set up 3 different 20 target courses. I wonder how many shooter's realize the man hours that go into setting up a shoot this large? The past is what it is, can’t go back and the club had zero say so. Support the clubs and I assume anyone who can walk in and out of the woods at night without getting lost can read a road map.

I shot it last year & was impressed, they did a great job with the courses, very nice targets, & super nice people. I’ll be there on Saturday again this year... and will be looking forward to that beverage offered up by UpNorth!

I haven't been able to go last year or this, but not because I don't think it is one of the finest 3d's of any type in the upper Midwest. Beautiful facility, meals available, free camping, and plenty of vendors. It's also a competitive event which I enjoy, though you can shoot just for fun if that is what you prefer.

Got the truck loaded up, the boys and I will be headed south around midday. We've been looking forward to this weekend since last year! We've never experienced anything that wasn't top notch at this shoot. The club and volunteers do an amazing job putting this shoot together!

Road maps do no good in the twin. Cities area.....there's always road construction and road closures with no clue how to circumvent them! Not worth the aggravation . I had a heck of a time last year just getting back around it coming home from the lake!

Great set ups on all three 20 target courses. The Footed Shaft, Holm-Made Bows, Dakota Bows were present plus other venters. Light showers Saturday morning ending by 9 am followed by a beautiful weekend.

Another top notch weekend of arrow flinging. My boys and I had an awesome time. Huge thanks to all the volunteers that devote hours of their time to organizing this event. We had a rather large group on the course Saturday morning, consisting completely of people that have met at this shoot over the last couple years. We will not be missing this shoot next year!

My guess is about 300 shooters. Down some from peak years, but still a great course...dang but too many 5 point hits for me. Plenty of easier AND challenging shots. I think high score was 900 out of a possible 1200 showing that it was no "piece of cake". I had three grandkids along as it's become a Father's day tradition for the family.

My only suggestion would be closer "Cub" stakes for the little ones to be less discouraged, but a plus was a side range just foe the kiddies.
