Is it just me but seems like Penna. has more than its share of traditional shoots and rendezvous throughout the state more so than others?? Opinions plz.

I live in Southwestern PA and we are very blessed to have such a large number of shoots not only on my side of the state but state wide. Even the mixed shoots I go to usually have a good amount of "traditional" archers. PA is more than just huge potholes and liberal politicians LOL.

Pa. is rich in archery history but you never saw much about it in magazines of the day. Fred Bear was born and raised in the Keystone State, as was Bob Swinehart, Clayton Shenk, John Williams and a plethora of archers that no one ever heard of outside the commonwealth. Pa. didn't align/join with the NFAA so they were kinda left out of the national magazines of the day.
Pa. was the first state to officially recognize the bow and arrow as a legal hunting weapon in 1929, although we didn't have our own bow season until 1951. We have the oldest, still operating archery club, "The United Bowmen of Philadelphia". But yes, we do have a good share of traditional shoots, including the largest one in ETAR.

Keystone state is a huge sportsman state..!!! Yes..we have many trad shoots..! A long history of hunting and a HUGE United Bowhunters of Pa help insure that..!! We can actually pick and choose the ones we wish to attend. May, June and July are loaded..!!

Although there were traditional groups and gatherings across the state, I think ETAR really got things rolling. All sorts of groups and clubs started springing up after the success and popularity of ETAR.
The annual pilgrimage to Denton Hill just wasn't enough. Like minded folks formed clubs, shoots sprang up, and the masses followed. Older clubs like the PA Longbow Association definately got a boost too.

Mike did a lot of asking before starting ETAR. I talked to him about it at the Potter County Bowhunter Festival in the mid 80's. It sure worked out for him and archery.

For 50 years the col drake archery club in Titusville pa had a labor day broadhead shoot to prepare hunters. Sadly it has stopped.

Their are 5 local clubs near to were I live, and you can shoot year round if you want.Many are compound shooters that are friendly, and always curious about shooting self bows, and recurves.If they ask we let them shoot our self bows, and recurves, and as a result some get into selfbow, and recurve game, and love it.
