Prob out of 300...

I see the scores..i.e. 227..226..etc. What is the first number listed..?

From: otis
Date: 11-Jun-19

There's a possible 250 unless you get the bonus targets. So, there was some pretty good shooting. The course score wasn't counted on the finals, it got you into the shoot down with that determining the winner.

First number is the shoot off score with 13 targets and IBO scoring, 11, 10, 8, 5 The second score in ( ) is score from 50 target range with 250 possible w/o bonus targets or 264 with bonus targets

Modern Traditional Class Recurve or Longbow – Either bow that uses any Limb attachment system where Tiller and/or Weight is adjustable. (EX: ILF, DAS, etc.). May be shot off the shelf or use an all plastic arrow rest and any plunger. Arrow rest may be spaced/ shimmed out to achieve center shot. No adjustments to the arrow rest/ plunger are allowed while on the course.

Modern Traditional was a new class we were trying out this year. May be the same next year or may be tweaked or changed for 2020

Will you be posting a list of all the scores on your website?

Thanks

Yes there were some good shooters there. Additionally, many of those good shooters just enjoy shooting traditional bows. We noticed campers packing and heading home by early afternoon on Saturday. We never even record our scores anymore. We tried that for a couple of years and won some shoots. But, honestly found that it took a lot of the fun out of just enjoying great courses like Cloverdale with family. Besides, at this point in my life, I just don't feel that I have anything to prove.

Big Striper don't understand, you know you not sticking around Sunday to shoot. But you still turn your card in for score. Just saying buddy.

I love this shoot! This was my first year turning in a card just so I could see how I compared to others. I was unable to make the shoot off but I was more than pleased with my shooting this year. So much fun! Congrats to those who placed!

I’m with Kurt on the single class shooting. Waste of money honestly. Also double scoring peer groups for the main shoot is way better than “trust the pencil” shoot off Sunday. Granted, the shoot off has FINALLY run off that one well known cheater. Blame it on the jack wagon.

I do think that going to a format such as at the IBO shoots would do nothing but further damage attendance. I have had enough success in my life on the athletic field, in the classroom, and since then that continuing the efforts to see how I compare or “measure” up is silly. The confidence that comes with age and success allows me to spend time like so many on here shooting with family and friends, which is way more important than meeting new people and worrying about scores. Whatever they call themselves or do, keep that great course open to all of those who want to shoot and not just those dealing with the insecurities of youth, aging, or just a perceived lack of success in their lives.

Don't really understand how a shoot name like "Cloverdale Traditional Nationals" is suppose to mean anything other than people have been coming from all over the "Nation" to shoot at Cloverdale for 32 years. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. As far as the debate about having a shoot off on Sunday, or double scoring, or strictly the honor system like we did it for 30 years. All the opinions we have heard over the years have valid points, but we believe any format used to run a Traditional Archery Shoot has it's own set of problems or flaws. We have had just under 500 shooters the last 2 years and have had 180-190 scores turned in each year. That means around 300 don't turn in a score. How to keep both groups satisfied isn't as easy as some might think. What one person likes another one doesn't. We know how the IBO runs their shoots and they do a great job, but that doesn't mean it would work for our Traditional Nationals. We have tried the Sunday shoot off for 2 years now and had better participation this year than last. We haven't decided yet how the 2020 format will run but we want to do our very best to make sure everyone has a good time, Score or no score. Good luck to everyone this Fall!

I don't know the answers about what makes a championship and what pleases everyone. Two score keepers, monitors on the course, a monitor at the beginning of a course and so on and so on.

Do we care about the numbers, I do and for a good reason. Why would anyone or any club by working their members, care to go to all the trouble of setting up course, cooking food trying to get good vendors, say for less than 100 participants. Targets cost money and people bring Vendors and Vendors bring people.

I'll say this respectfully about the IBO, my friend Levy Bryant said he doesn't care about the numbers so much, just great competition. Hard and challenging course set ups.

At the Howard Hill Classic which also had the IBO Mid America with it this year, just a few weeks ago, the HH Classic was down. WHY?

There were less than 300 shooters, 294 to be precise. The IBO had 86 total shooters with all the rest shooting the HH Classic course or I should say all but 5 IBO shooters shot the HH Classic course. Everyone that shot the HH Classic course say they loved it, even those IBO shooters that had never been here before. Some shots were more challenging but they all said the way it was set up was also fun.

My first HH Classic 15 years ago had 274 participants, and this year's attendance was the lowest since. Every year there after had well over 300 and most had an average of 500 participants.

The weather was made to order, again, why such a drop off?

I plan on having the Howard Hill Classic for several more years and can only hope I can make it a great shoot like the Cloverdale Nationals as well as the Twin Oaks Classic.
