Just received two dozen Wapiti POC shafts in my mail. This is my first order of anything but Acme (years ago) and rose city. These look great! Straight grain and straight shafts. No sappy wood. No splits.

What surprised me the most is each shaft is marked with it's weight. I haven't put them on a scale yet and won't have Time for a week or so since I'm leaving town for a while.

I'll post another note then.

Bought 2 dozen of their tapered pre finished arrows. Excellent quality arrows. Very nicely done and very nice shafts. Way to go as far as i'm concerned. All i had to do was fletch them, put on my nocks and points. They shoot very well for me. Very straight shafts.

I just wish they had the heavier spines.

I ordered their tapered and parallel shafts a while back and agree, take a stain nicely and no sappy shafts. Will order from them again

POC means Port Orford Cedar, widely regarded as the .best arrow wood. Wapiti sources them from ancient fire killed and fallen trees mostly centuries old. Their processes produce shafts that are naturally straight and generally stay that way. Their quality control standards are very high. Great shafts. - lbg

Here's a quick follow up on the shafts I originally posted about. This post is about quality control. Below are the results of my own checking.

One dozen 11/32" 50-55 lb shafts

Average shaft weight 412.75 grains

High 416, low 408.

Extreme spread 8 grains Extreme spread eliminating the highest and lowest weight 3 grains

Here's how a dozen 5/16" 30-35 shafts shook out

Average weight 294.66

Extreme spread 22 grains

Extreme spread with the high and low weight eliminated 5 grains.

Both sets of shafts generally weighed a few grains less than marked

I ordered some of their Blacktail prefinished shafts and have nothing but praise for them. Very straight and consistent weights.

Port Orford Cedar are pretty forgiving of a few pounds of spine also, and I find them the easiest wood to tune...and I've shot many kinds of wood. The softwoods rule in that department as far as I'm concerned. At deer killing distance, I doubt you even notice a difference of 20 grains unless you're shooting at 50+ yards, and then it won't be much. I've used Wapiti shafts and they are as good as you will get.
