There was a time when every week there would be a thread titled "Are Black Widow bows worth the money"?. That just came back to me LOL. Do you have another?

From: The Whittler
Date: 23-Apr-19

I think they found out they were worth the money LOL. I remember when we had penny candy. When people respected each other and property. When a dollar was actually worth a dollar LOL.

Dean, I remember those days, zwickeys and cedar don't kill anything anymore, they bounce off deer now.

I remember going to the barbershop with my dad in the mid to late '50s and the subject of bowhunting would come up. My dad would say: "Why would any body want to carry a 50# bow around in the wooods, a shotgun is heavy enough as it is?" My dad was hunting with a 50#+ Pearson long bow at the time. bvd

Bodkin three blade broadheads were $4 a dozen. Sure worked good on those $40/100, Rose City POC shafts.

When Ken Beck was new at Black Widow. When 3Rivers Archery printed their first catalog. When shooting 3 under really was novel. When Gadabout Gaddis was on TV every week. The first carbon arrows. When Western Auto stores sold a full ine of sporting goods. Heck, when Sears sold a full line of sporting goods. 2-D archery shoots in the city park. Joan and Lee Wulff on the American Sportsman. When Myles Keller shot a Howat Hunter recurve. When Chuck Adams shot a Wing recurve. When fiberglass arrows were "new". When Bear magnesium riser takedowns were less than $200.00 new. When Ben Pearson Archery was still making recurves in Pine Bluff.

Is there such a thing as instinctive shooting? The Bunny Hunter had some funny threads. Is it ethical if I bla bla bla! What's this original 1953 Pat. Bear Worth. Saw it on Ebay. Is it safe to put Tinks 69 on your hunting clothes?

We had trap shooting in phy ed so we would bring our shotguns to school. we had to leave them at the front of the bus though. I also bought a Bear Black Panther bow at K-Mart for $69.99

From: Iwander
Date: 24-Apr-19

The bus driver would pick up a box of shotgun shells and take care of the gun while I was at school. Then he would drop me off along the ditch halfway home. That worked as long as he got a fresh pheasant the following morning.

From: rallison
Date: 24-Apr-19

Aye..the times, they are a-changin'. And not for the better!

We had "rifle club" in high school, with an indoor .22 range deep in the bowels of the school. Kids brought rifles and shotguns to school for hunter ed classes taught there after school hours...the principal kept them in his office until class. Many vehicles in the lot had firearms for quick hunt after school.

But what I really miss is the readily available hunting land availability and opportunities.

From: RymanCat

Wheres Frisky.

Now don't mess with an Alpha woman you will get eaten when you try to eat her young.LOL

Now ya get attacked when you disagree with bucket tests and all the other tests other than on live real animals.

The killers have left the room they don't exist all we are left is theory and socialists thinking.

Oh and get blamed for rants when the truth should set them free.LOL

Pandora's box you opened.LOL

Rallison, we had a rifle club and a shooting range at my High School also in Eau Claire. Those days are gone, to bad. I used to love it when the big Outdoor Safari type movies would come to town at the theaters. My dad would take me to them and I would just be in awe at everything. It was something to see and hear on the big screen.

My high school drafting teacher kept a Springfield rifle & a double barreled 12 ga shotgun in the supply room just out of reach of the kids. Nobody (as far as I know) asked him why he kept them there & nobody even mentioned anything about grabbing one & starting to shoot other kids in the school. PS: That kid pushing the gas powered mower was lucky. Ours was one of those that didn't have a motor.

Having to wear red or orange outer clothing during archery deer season.

That changed in OK, but not until the mid '60's thanks to archery clubs and folks having some influence with the law makers on state regulations. I took a red hooded sweatshirt and painted leaf patterns on it with yellow and orange paints.

WE WERE SPOILED TO DO WHATEVER WE WANTED AND WHERE EVER WE WANTED TO DO.

BUT WE ALSO HAD A TIME TO BE HOME BY AND THE DOORS GOT LOCKED. I SLEPT IN BUSHES A FEW TIMES AND ON THE BOAT OTHER TIMES SO I WAS THERE IN THE MORNING WHEN IT SAILED. lol

SLEPT IN CAR A FEW TIMES ALSO. SOMETIMES I SLEPT IN MY CAR AT MY FATHERS BODY SHOP WHEN WAS OUT ALL NIGHT CAROUSING. STREET RACING OR RUNNING DOES TOO. lol

All he had to do is knock on window and say time for work boy. Go in and wash my face and start beating on fenders and get a coffee. LOL

He wouldn't talk to be until about noon time then say your mother was worried you didn't come home last night. LOL

Come close to weekend and he wouldn't shut up about where the bite was and we were leaving midnight Friday night be down at boat weather permitting to sail.

Those were the times 60' and 70's and 80's then troubles started getting married and having baby's. They tried to cut my wings but their saws were dull I guess. They probably need TNT stuck in my butt. LOL

I've had about a half barrel full of Black Widows, so not an expert yet, but I have loosed a few arrows with BayouGirl.
