Well I bought the bow and here is a pic. Not real good pic but I snapped it in my shop right before lunch.

Based on what SB told me in my first thread, I’m thinking it is a 64. It’s near mint with only some tiny nicks and dings from use. Two very minor and short stress lines. I gave him $150 and he took it but he seemed to have thought it is worth more. Since he is a lifelong friend, I’m thinking I probably should give him at least 25 more and maybe 50 tops. Anyone have any thoughts? I want to be fair but I’m out of my league on old target bows.

It is a '63. The grip extends past the horns on a '63. On a '64, the grip is close to being enen with the horns. Also, the '64 had the Bristle Brush Rest and Adjustable Arrow Plate on them. bvd

Thanks Buster. Now what would you value it? It’s near mint.

If SB thinks it would be worth $200, I would go with that...specially to a life long friend. bvd

Can look at it from the other way as well. Maybe he gave you a good deal because you're a long-time friend.

Kurt, this one is 38 pounds and does look very nice. I wish it had the cutout and bristle rest but it doesn’t. Orion, I doubt that he wanted to give me a good deal. Without a long story, he’s pretty well off and charges people similar to a lawyer for his services. Judging by a comment he made to me, I think he wanted a bit more. I had rather take the high road rather than the low road. That’s why I’m trying to nail down a very fair value. Besides I sleep better at night that way. Guys I really do appreciate all your comments. I just have to feel that I am doing the right thing.

Yes it IS a 1963 model....and a nice one!

If it was me, I'd give him $200. That's a fair price. However, $150 is also a fair price, as he accepted it and it's an old bow. It could break tomorrow. I got a Hoyt Pro Medalist target bow for $40, in great shape! I told the guy I couldn't pay what it was actually worth, if he sold on eBay, and he said, no, it's $40 even!

I'd say $150 is just fine.

Nice bow.

Original feather rest and sideplate...sweet!

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered a new string for it as the one that was on it was wrong and old too of course. It’s been on the wall all these years. Other than some light yellowing of the limbs, and some marks on the limbs from a mounted quiver, I’d say it is mint. The quiver marks I think will polish out. I’ve decided to go ahead and make it $200. If it were a stranger probably not but I have a lot of history with this fella and he sold me another bow he had that I wanted badly for a good price. I have to sleep at night and money doesn’t mean that much to me anyway. Good friends are few and far between too. I’m really excited to shoot both bows, but no way was I gonna trust 50 year old strings. I strung them up gently to check for straight limbs and then unstrung them until I get the proper strings for them.

John, you'll be looking at a brace in the 8-8 1/2" range on that bow. Seems to be where mine shoots the nicest.

Thanks SB. The string that was on it was about an inch too short. Untwisted it showed a brace of 9”. All my bows brace between 8 and 8 1/2. I figured I would be correct. It’s nice to verify though as we all know all bows are different. I should be able to shoot it by the end of the week. Looking forward to it.

John,

Whatever you decide to do will be fair for both of you. I can see that you're a really nice, honest guy and that's top notch in my book!

Thanks for the compliment Ralph. My dad raised me on the Bible and the Golden Rule. Aaron Tippin had a country song and a line that said something like My daddy told me that whatever you do today, you’ll have to live with tonight. Man that is a true statement. You can do a million dollar deal with me with nothing but a handshake. I figure one of these days I’ll stand in judgement and I want my record to be as good as it can be. Good friends are hard to come by and should be treated with respect and with all people as much as you can.

Life long friend give it to him! My friends and I give each other deals most time.

You like something then take it's yours. You can put values on things to friends but you know what you have to do.

Just a thought you choose or it will be chosen for you.
