How well does a 58" amo modern hybrid longbow design accommodate a 28" draw length? I'm talking about bowhunting from a treestand, not shooting long distances in field archery tournaments. I'd appreciate hearing your experiences with 58" R/D bows such as Striker, Bodnik Slick Stick, etc.

My Journeyman is “58, and I really like it. All my Kanati’s are now 60”, and for me that seems to shoot the best. Both builders make great shooting bows as well as many others. I would try to shoot a few and see what works best for you. I’ve hunted out of a tree stand and a ground blind with a 60” recurve, with no issues.

I would have no problem with it, that being said I had a 64" A&H that I thought was just a bit longer than I liked in the stand so now waiting on a 60 inch.

I never had trouble with 70 inches in a treestand, but when I shot 62 inches I checked all shots and that will never change. If you can put up with the string angle you're good. I couldn't and I draw 29.

Thanks for the input, so far. Yes, Bowmania, string angle is a big consideration for me. I'm sure string angle varies with the bow design, i.e., not all 58" hybrids will have same string angle. I once watched a Black Widow video demonstrating how one of their short recurves actually had a more shallow string angle than another longer recurve. It was because of the BW forward handle design.

My Big Jim Thunderchild is 58" 47#@28" It's the smoothest nicest bow I have ever owned. 58" length is perfect for this design. The performance I get is very impressive as well. I do pull 28" and getting 177 fps with 9 gpp arrows. It's an amazing setup.

Bodnik bows are made for long draws. I draw 29 and my Super Slick Stick (58") draws as easy and smooth as my 62" recurves.

My 56" Kanati draws 28" easily.

I shoot a 60" Galaxy Ember longbow from Lancaster Archery (same bow as sold under the name Black Hunter). I draw 30 1/2" with no stack out to my draw.

28" is far from a long draw. Depending on the bow..depth of arrow shelf front to back, I draw from 27 1/2 to 28+ inches. I have a 60" semi-recurve/hybrid that shoots great for me with no finger pinch. I think string angle bothers some folks more than others too. We never worried about it when we were shooting 52" recurves and they will have more string angle than a 58" semi.

I got a 58" Robertson Coy Pup hybrid that shoots great. Here is a 52" Texas Recurve that as close to shooting a longbow you can get shooting a Recurve. Both would handle a 28" draw. The Texas Recurve is the smoothest bow I've ever pulled. It seems to get easier to pull the further you yank.
