So a couple of weeks ago I bought some light spined shafts from a fellow LW'er here. These are Rose City I believe, cap dipped and sealed with generic cresting. Anyways they are 11/32" so I purchase some of those nocks and of course they don't fit unless retaper the nock ends which I did. Now they fit fine.

Now I am trying to fletch them with white feathers and I can't get the feathers to stick without smearing the paint, I've tried super glue, gorrila super glue, and DUCO cement that seems to be barely holding them and it to is making the cap dip look a little drippy for lack of a better word. So what glue do you think I should try next? thanks

An easy fix--- apply Onestringer clear wraps then use fletchtite or gorilla super glue blue cap.

No telling what they're finished with and what will be compatible--- the wraps will work.

After the paint is dry, you need to clear coat the arrow and let that dry before fletching.

Fletch tape.

Saunders NPV...You've tried everything else. And yes,you need a compatible clear coat over paint before fletching!

Ok thanks, they are clear coated I'll try some wraps and some tape maybe. thanks

I'd strip it down to bare wood and start over.

tape when you don't know whats under maybe or get a hold of Rose city and find out what they used maybe?

HunterSioux nailed it. Clear coat first. I use Minwax wipe-on poly - 3 coats. Then steel wool the fletch area with 0000 steel wool to roughen it up a bit. Clean good with denatured alcohol and then fletch with Saunders NPV.

One stringer clear wraps would be less of a headache.

When I cap arrows for guys, I make a piece of card board with six holes and spray with Rustoleum paint and then use Duct. I am too lazy to get more artistic than that.

I have ran into this when repairing a few RoseCity arrows.

I ended up using Fletch Tite platinum. It still melts the dipping but it won't run as bad as thinner glues. It sets up hard.

You want it melt the clear coat. That's what creates a solid bond. If you are getting smearing you're using too much glue most likely.

They are coated in gasket lacquer as is my understanding. I bought some fresh glue as in new yesterday, Fletch Tite Platinum and it still didn't work so I also have some wraps on order too. This is getting to be way to much effort. thanks

Guy's I've been making wooden arrow over 60 years and you do NOT need to overcoat the paint before fletching. However you do need to find what glue is compatible with the paint being used.

I have noticed that Duco's formula has apparently been changed again and is not working like it used too. It is yellowing in the container after opening also. Too bad that California has found that everything that is manufactured in the world causes cancer. I'm beginning to believe that California's law makers cause cancer!!!!!
