Does anyone dip and crest carbon arrows. Is the process the same as with wood.

I have never heard of anyone. I use cap wraps on carbon arrows.

Wraps from Onestringer for me.

Ive used rattle can krylon and also crest them. May help to rough the surface up a bit first.

A lot of people dress up carbon arrows. Carbon is closer to wood than aluminum. I have a dozen CX150s that are to fancy to shoot. I’m saving them for special hunting arrows. When I win the Lottery I’m going to shoot only beautiful arrows the rest of my life..????????

I've done it in the past. Too much muss and fuss for me, but if you have the tools, go ahead. No different than wood except you need to plug the end of the shaft before dipping. 3 Rivers used to sell little plugs for this application.

Just like wood or aluminum. Make sure your prep is good. If you dip plug the end (old nocks work great) If you spray it doesn't matter. Just have at it!

Krylon spray paint, testers cresting, Minwax water based poly clear coat on top. Best to give spray several days to a week to cure.

I have done what RonL does. Works well for me. Usually use wraps now days. Years back I tried dipping CE wood grain shafts. What a disaster. I was using my Fletch Laq paints that had never failed me for woods or aluminums. I gave up before finding out the slick surface on carbons to help pull arrows from targets keeps paint from adhering. Now days they sell carbon prep solutions and use waterbased paint. For prep on carbons using spray paint I use Acetone.

I have dipped and crested all types of carbon including wood grain. Rub them down with acetone, paint will adhere.

Lighty sand, clean with acetone, spray paint for crown (light coats!), Testors for cresting and Krylon clear after drying a few days to protect the cresting.

Have any of you guys spray painted an entire carbon shaft not just the crown? I’m using the bare carbon Gold Tip shafts with my new recurve and was thinking about painting the entire shaft white or yellow. Curious about how it would hold up and how much weight it would add.

Pull the nocks off and take a .22 shell casing and wrap painters tape around it until if fits snug. The rim of the .22 shell works well to remove it when the paint dries. Dig them as you would POC. Herb

I have dip and crested my carbon shafts for close to fifteen years. Mostly because I enjoy the work I put into them.

My question is what glue will stick to the spray paint? I have tried bohning fletchtite in the past with poor results.

From: Penny Banks

If I'm staining or painting carbons I use Ducco. If not then super glue medium

In general bohning only sticks to bohning. I use Duco or Saunders NPV

Oops. Gary Hall at D&M custom arrows uses paint, nicest arrows I've had and I've been rolling my own for 20+ years.

"My question is what glue will stick to the spray paint? I have tried bohning fletchtite in the past with poor results."

You seal the paint with Wipe on Poly so you aren't gluing to paint. I use Saunders NPV myself and it works great.

B.T. asked about adhesives on another thread, and I saw it too late, I think. I use spray-on poly after spray painting carbons, and use Bohning fletch tape. A dab of NPV, or gel super glue if I'm out of NPV on the ends. Never had one come off, even with heavy use is soggy conditions.

Yes a lot. I have some purty arrows carbons other guys dipped and crested and spliced I bought.

Shawn do you get much target burn with that 60/40 mix of poly?
