Who shoots a Jay St Charles Thunderbird? Opinions? Pictures?

From: Knifeguy
Date: 20-Feb-19

Great bows. Shoot great and quiet. Very easy to tune, if you even have to. I’ll see if I can get some photos tomorrow. Lance

I shoot one that I received for a gift from my sister just a few months back. I like the way it shoots. At my league shoots I alternate from week to week with it and my Black Hawk.

I had one but sold it when it got a bit heavy for me. It was an excellent shooting bow and you will never deal with a nicer gentleman than Jay. I need to find another one at some point.

I shot one at Compton a few years ago. Love the look and feel of the bow but just didn’t care for the way it shot .

Yes, I have one. I was able to shoot someone's and it was just a great bow, great cast, dead in the hand, stable, unlike any bow I'd shot. I had one made by him and it had all the same characteristics, just in a slightly different combination. It's a gem.

I have a 66" dual shelf with the laminated riser. Its the only recurve I shoot now. The others hang on the wall.

I thought I may as well include a picture of an original that hangs in my living room. Lance

Had a 63 incher.Single shelf and osage riser with yew limbs.

Classy bows that have a rustic appeal.

They shoot nice.

Bought one that could be shot from ether side but now is to much weight for me. Nice bow wish I had more strength

From: KDdog

Never shot one, never held one, but have heard great things from reliable resources. Hope to try one someday.

From: Bluefeather

I bought one from Jay about 4 years ago and absolutely love it. It is 66" and 50# at 30" with an Ipe riser and yew limbs. It is my go to recurve and I would have to agree with Suedog, it's probably the quietest recurve I've ever shot.

Good for you Jay Vern Holsted

Never even seen one let alone shot one, but they have always facinated me and are on my bucket list.

From: Heat

I really like the riser profile. Wish they made a 60" bow.

From: Roadrunner
Date: 28-Dec-19

Heat, I always thought I needed a short bow for hunting, but have been shooting 66" bows and like them much better, and really don't see the need for shorter bows.

They’re all nice, but I like that dual shelf yew, Lance. Tis’ a beauty.

had two sold both like the idiot I am.The last one I had was ipe IIRC. It was sweet and I emailed a few who asked about and none of them were who bought it ....<><

I have #31 48@28 from the first run of 300 all Yew T-birds signed by Glenn I think Jay said these bows where made off the original Tbird forms Glenn used.

at the time everyone was changing to carbons so I wanted to shoot only aluminums from that bow and found the bow bareshafted a 28.5 1916 with 200gr point and 3 LW EV-Howlers (the singing fletch) I was using Jays original strings w/muskrat silencers braced 6.5" which had a nice soft release like a soft R/D longbow but then I changed to a 10 strand skinny string and didn't like it the High Performance strings are NOT meant for this type of bow so I have to go back to the original string or a Flemish to stay with aluminums.

the bow shoots good it feels a lot like my 1953 bear K14 static limbed bow as you draw it, it has a very comfortable med-grip and pulls smooth with great cast not super flat but with my 540gr arrows from my 27.5 draw it has that consistent trajectory that's very manageable if you will and the one deer I shot didn't seem to hear the bow.

I got a used Thunderbird, osage orange w/yew veneers. I love it but the 63" stacks slightly for me. So I ordered a 66" walnut one. Can't wait to get it but apparently I have to! I'll probably sell the shorter one even though I love it. They are amazing shooters. IME sort of like a mid 50s to pre-59 Kodiak.
