Mark your calendars for one of the best shoots on the planet, June 20-23. The Colorado Traditional Archers Society High Country Shoot is held in the middle of elk country the weekend after Father’s Day every year. Six 3-D ranges, novelty shoots, vendors, food and fun. Primitive camping with porta potties provided (large RVs to 2 man tents). Typically around 500 shooters. See you there.

Also, our banquet is coming up on February 8,9 in Denver. Check the website for details.

I have been making plans to attend this year. Just talked with someone who is involved with the shoot last night. Trying to get some info about the shoot and he was very helpful with all my questions. Looking forward to it! TB

It is located in the Mountains about 15 miles North of New Castle Colorado. New Castle is on I 70, 169 miles west of Denver

The lost arrow buckets make me smile. The archers are very good to bring back the arrows that have been lost by other shooters.

I've been trying to decide between attending the CTAS High Country Shoot in Colorado or the Compton Traditional Bowhunters shoot in Michigan the weekend previous. Now I'm thinking of attending both. Should be a fun trip.

Coming up soon. TTT.

I have always wanted to attend this one. I go to a lot, drive a lot, but this one is a stretch from Alabama. Looks like it would be a ton of fun.

Hoping the snow doesn’t keep us out this year. There is a lot up there.

I renewed my membership a few days ago. Now I need to see what kind of shape my new knee is in in a couple of more weeks before deciding if we'll drive the 7 hours from NM for the shoot.

I'm working hard on PT, therapy pool workouts, and home exercises. I've been down in my backyard shooting a bit when it hasn't been snowing ??. We'll see how it comes along.

Still some snow in the shady areas, plenty wet and muddy but should be good in a couple weeks. Might be buggy though.

Well I decided I should come up and try out my new 7 week old knee. It seems to be working fairly well at home and on the trails around my house. I may need to stay off the three arrow course but hopefully I can shoot a few rounds.

Just registered me, my wife, and my 25 year-old daughter. My daughter came up from Denver for the first time last year and had a blast. It's the only time she or my wife shoot, but they really seem to enjoy it. They don't lose as many arrows as I do either! Looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks.

Mark (and other CTAS board members and volunteers)--Thanks for all the effort you guys put into making this shoot one of the best trad shoots in the country. I used to drive five hours from SW Colorado to attend and now I drive seven hours from Northern New Mexico. It is a blast to shoot and well worth the dirve. It is also a great time to catch up with other like- minded archer/bowhunter friends and meet some new ones. Good to hear the site is drying out. See everyone next weekend!

Some good items in the preregistration drawing again this year. Bowshot, I heard there is some standing water on the road to the corrals but I will update you next week (remind me if I forget).

What will the temps look like for the shoot? I’m going to my first CTAS High country shoot and can’t wait! I had planned to bring my camper but if primitive camping spots are plentiful, I might just bring my hammock and ice chest...

From: WarDancer Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 16-Jun-19

about the hammock sometimes the bears are a problem.

From: moosehunter Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 16-Jun-19

Good to know, I don’t want to tangle with a bear! Any description of the camping area ? Trees? Open grass? Is cooking allowed? Water available? Thank you

From: WarDancer Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 16-Jun-19

There are trees and also open areas for camping, cooking is allowed , take your own water. Open fires depends on conditions don't think there is a problem this year.

Bryce, where are you in Texas I live just outside of Tyler.

Thank you for the description!

War Dancer, I’m from Lubbock... you have quite a drive! Have you been before?

From: WarDancer Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 16-Jun-19

Been twice several years ago when we lived in New Mexico. I am an old Tech grad.

From: kadbow Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 16-Jun-19

Courses are laid out. What snow is left is coming off fast. There is a pretty good “pond” on the road to the corral. There were vehicle tracks through it. We might try and open up another camping area if vehicles can’t get up to the corral area. We need to make a big effort to not tear up the roads and definitely not tear up off the roads. Still plenty of camping. Bring your own water. We really never had an issue with bears but there have been bears in the camping area a couple of times. The temps should be a few degrees less than those for Buford. It was chilly at night, I am bringing a warmer bag back up with me. Should be no issues with fires, use existing fire rings. Should be another good one. See you in a few days!

From: kadbow Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 17-Jun-19

Not sure when you are planning on coming up Ben but Wednesday afternoon/evening is not to early. For one can can get a good camping spot. We start putting targets out Thursday morning and helping set up is a great way to meet some folks, get a free lunch and we usually let those that help with set up start shooting early Thursday evening. Make sure and look me up, I will have my name tag on most of the time.

From: WarDancer Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 18-Jun-19

Decided not to make the drive by myself just too far maybe I can find someone to go with me next year please post lots of pics.

From: Treeline Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 18-Jun-19

Planning to head that way on Thursday. Looking forward to seeing everyone! Gonna be a blast, as usual:-)

From: Bryce Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 18-Jun-19

How’s that pond on the roadway? Can we get a truck with a camper through? Around ?

From: Treeline Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Jun-19

I’m on the east side of the flattops in Routt county and we got a lot of rain yesterday. Hopefully it dries up a little over the next several days. I haven’t been up there yet. Pictures from last week were pretty soggy!

From: kadbow Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Jun-19

We can’t go around the pond because we will tear up the meadow. There were tracks through it but none of us tried it last weekend. We may open up another area for camping if the corral area is inaccessible. There are plenty of places for campers, just might be a little tighter this year.

From: moosehunter Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Jun-19

Can we run a quiet generator?

From: moosehunter Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Jun-19

Not sure why a generator would be needed at night, just asking for day time, occasional use, as needed.

From: moosehunter Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 20-Jun-19

You’re right about that! Looking forward to heading out after work today!
