Met and talked with this Amish gentleman. He was pulling walnut logs out to the township road. Beautiful horses and a fine gent as well.

I horse logged two summers. Loved it. I used a Percheron for twitching single trees and teamed him with a Belgian for big trees. Gentle giants. I didn’t make as much money as with a skidder, but it was a safer pace and less money spent, so in the end, I made out well.

Little drain areas between the wood patches and fields. Pay attention here or you may go up to your knee in mud and slush. ;)

Looking west toward the creek bottom.
The creek down here has smallmouth, suckers, fallfish, and rock bass mostly. Up in the mountain you can find some native brooks up to about 6" long or so.

Mr Stout. The pictures are great, but I have to say I love that bow even more. I have found myself gravitating towards vintage bows( only have one, a frank eicholtz from the early 70's). And a black hawk scorpion is the first on the list.

Love the horses,is that private land that’s being lumbered. Wish we had creeks and walnut trees here. 90% of reparian ares in Arizona are gone. RonL

Ron, that is private land, it belongs to my neighbor who farms the fields. It's full of black walnut trees and of course many sycamore as well. The tree's they are taking down I believe are in stress or so it appears. They are pretty old and I know one for sure was dying. The Amish buy it and mill it for making furniture, and building. They did have chain saws though.
