The bamboo is glued up with smooth on. I see where I went wrong by gluing the handle block on first with gflex. Bow is Ipe. Can I put a new block on with smooth on? My concern is putting an already cured bow back in the oven?? The thickness is 7/16” at the handle.

I don’t put overlays back in oven, it will cure in 24 hours . I figure no need to risk heating the bow . Actually the bow I’ve hunted with for two years , none of it was heated . I had heard of bowyers not heat curing so I tried it. No probs yet but I’m back to heating the limb glue up...

Like Kenny said, smooth on will cure at room temperature in 24 hours.
You could also place a light bulb close to the riser to help with drying.

I’ve used a fully adjustable artist’s lamp on a stand with a 100-150 watt bulb for curing smooth-on up close. I’ve used it on tip overlays, and limb tip tears and provides enough heat close up. 4 hrs seemed to do the trick.

Thanks guys. Not sure how I feel about gflex yet but smooth on hasn’t let me down yet. By the way I know this one was my fault not gflex’s. Glued the block on and three days later clamped it in deflex when gluing the boo on. Too much pressure on a rigid piece I think.

With smooth on and laminated bows I have put them in the oven 4 or 5 times for different cures and no problems .

You want to glue up the belly lam and the backing into d/r and let that dry 24 hours.
Then lay the riser block on it's side and trace out the curve of the bows riser section onto the riser block.
Cut the riser curve line out and sand till you have a tight fit.
Then glue the riser block onto the bow.
I've done it over a hundred times.

Thanks a lot guys. Turned out ok so far. Tiller is complete and the bow has really kept a great profile. Not too much set at all! 66”, 48@ 28”. Exactly what I wanted. Just some handle shaping and finish sanding, sealing left!
