I have a few and am familiar with these bows. The bows I have and the ones we seem to talk about the most are with metal risers. I would like to learn about and see pictures of ones with wooden risers. Which old wood compounds could be used and what deferences need to be considered to put them together.

Have no pics but I warfed my wife's old Browning Timberwolf compound with a wooden riser. Inlet some ILF inserts into the riser and used Black Max medium limbs. Made a sweet shooting 62" bow.

Thanks SB, did you have to alter the angles of the limb pads?

I spent years trying to figure out how to turn my Jeffery 44 Magnum into a Frankenbow. Ultimately Tom Jeffery explained that it wouldn't work because the limb bolts and pivots are not exactly aligned vertically, in order to allow the wheelie cables to align.

Ok so how do you know which compound handles will work and which ones won’t?

The limb pad angle is the most critical I believe. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 17° is optimal from what I've read...I'm no expert on the matter.

Thanks for posting them pics SB. That is a sweet looking bow!
Browning Timber Wolf is now on my list of risers to hunt for.
My BB Warf is nice but I am a wood bow guy and some of them old compounds sure have some nice wood risers. So I want to learn whatever info you fellows can share.

Tom,I think most of the old wood risered compounds would be doable. The worst you may have to do is change the limb pad angle...not hard to do with proper wood tools. I know there were quite a few old Browning wood risered compound models back in the day.

There was a post not to long ago about a guy that converted a Black hunter handle to ILF. It looked real nice and that bow has a wonderful handle shape. You might have to do a search on "Black Hunter" because the post was about him putting ILF limbs on it in order to make a longer bow. The conversion looked real nice. - jwingman
