Anybody have a Arroyo from Chester and Ike? Is the quality the same in the bows as when Kevin built them? Thinking about one.

No RER shooters?

I had him build me a custom and I sent it back. Enough said. However working with Chester was a pleasure and I really hope they make it in their business.

Brandon,

How long ago did you purchase that bow and send it back? Most of the recent comments about their bows that I have seen have been really good. If yours was an early bow it may now be a different story.

I have a year old LX made by the new owners (but I believe only one of the brothers is now building the bows) and it seems as good as the bows Kevin built, and I have owned several.

I hope some of the other owners of the new bows pipe in with their findings.

Chester and a helper are building the bows and they are now every bit as good as the original RER owners. Chester bought the company probably about 4 years ago so he has been doing this for awhile. Specifically, I have had two RER Arroyos built by Chester and they were flawless. Have two more on order...

I had an Arroyo made by Chester, along with a friend of mine, about a year and a half ago. He was great to work with while taking the order for the bow, sending design specs, etc. But after he started making the bow he wouldn't send pics (too busy) or the progress. He also seemed to have not looked back on what I requested in terms of design. The bow I got was similar to what I wanted but not what I wanted. The gloss finish was also terribly done. It also scaled at 4.5# over what I requested. To his credit, Chester offered to buy the bow back, or have me return it and work on it some more. I returned it for more work. He took off 2 more #s, took off the gloss and put on a satin finish, and sent it back. Of course it's still not the bow I wanted, but it's a great bow and shoots great.

If you're not too particular about how you want the bow to look, you'll probably get a fantastic bow. Mine is actually a gorgeous bow, but I'm still disappointed it didn't come out the way I had asked him to make it.

The problem with Chester and many other small shop bowyers, is that they are too busy making bows and don't make enough $ doing it. They should have an assistant to handle customer support, as Blacktail does, but they don't charge enough for their bows to pay for one. The result is that many of the best bowyers have quit, due to getting burned out on customer service and not making enough to support their families. I would rather pay more for a bow and get what I want, and see the bowyer continue to make bows. Chester, if you're reading this, as I said before you should charge more and hire an assistant, if you haven't already!

Anyway these are great bows so it's worth a shot at one. Just don't be too specific about the design!

Really? Kevin was outstanding. He made a bow for my brother in law that's one of the best shooting, high quality recurves I've seen and his LX was always on my list. One of my regrets in stickbows is not getting a bow from Kevin while he was making them. I hope to hear that the new guys are doing well.

Seems like Chester has never found a way to make the same sort of bows that Kevin and family were able to produce. He will likely figure it out eventually but for now I would not be buying anything from him. My LXR built by Kevin was one of the best shooting bows I have ever owned. Look for an Arroyo on the used bow market.

hmm, i've seen several of chesters bows and shot one arroyo and id say they are absolutely incredible! the arroyo is likely one of the fastest recurves out there, (excluding the super curves) He's got a youtube channel, seems like a down to earth fellow. Also, if you go to the tradgeeks youtube channel youll see one of the most beautiful rer vortex longbows youll likely ever see...buckeye burl. awesome bows

I just watched all their "the work week" videos plus a few others they have out there. Man that kid and his friends are living the dream and loving life. I hope they can keep it going, we need more entrepreneur kids like this.
