We just placed an order for 114 T.A.S. Regional Bowhunter Championship Belt Buckles for the 2019 3-D Season.
2019 is going to be another exciting year for traditional archery!
Traditional Archery Society in conjunction with several state clubs, will be hosting 6 Regional Traditional Bowhunter Championships that are planned throughout the year followed by the T.A.S. Trad Bowhunter World Championship in May.
When a shooter wins their class and their score meets the world class score requirement for their class, that shooter will be guaranteed a spot in the shoot-off at the T.A.S. Trad Bowhunter World Championship.

So those minimum qualifying scores are based on 20 targets?
Any idea what percentage of shooters can crack that total?

“So those minimum qualifying scores are based on 20 targets?”
Hi Matt,
Those scores are based on 40 targets.
All T.A.S. Regional and World Championship Events are 40 Target qualifying and 20 Target Shoot-off.

“Any idea what percentage of shooters can crack that total?”
Hi Matt,
2019 will be the 5th Annual Trad Bowhunter World Championship. There’s been many top shooters that have met or exceeded those scores. T.A.S. scoring is 10, 8, 5, 0.

So the qualifying score is from the last 20 targets at a regional championship?
Also does this mean that qualified shooters only have to shoot the shootoff at the world championship?

“Also does this mean that qualified shooters only have to shoot the shootoff at the world championship?”
Hi Stratton,
If a shooter wins at a Trad Bowhunter Regional Championship and their score on the 20 Target Championship round meets the score requirement for that class, the shooter only needs to shoot in the shoot-off at the Trad Bowhunter World Championship.
For example: If you win the longbow class with a score of 160 or better on the championship round at the Atlantic Trad Bowhunter Championship in Virginia, you will be guaranteed a spot in the shoot-off at the Trad Bowhunter World Championship.

“Doing the arrow building champion thing again this year?”
Hi Chad,
All arrows being entered in the World Championship Arrowsmith event need to be received by the May 20, 2019 or brought to the event.
Bob Burton of Whispering Wind Arrows was last years champion. Here’s a picture of Bob’s winning arrow.

Thanks Darren! Can you give us rules and a link or address where to ship arrows. Best wishes and regards, happy holidays. I think last year it was $3 per entry, per arrow?

I’m confused. A score of 180 on 40 targets sounds like what a lot of Trad-bashers would tell you to expect from a recurve shooter - an average of slightly worse than “wounding” everything you shoot at.
180 on 20 is an average of 9 points/shot. At that rate, you’ve gotta be pretty well dialed in...
I sure would like to see the bell-curve distribution of scores from all comers for the year, just to see how everyone does. I realize that the sample would probably be skewed toward the higher side of reality, seeing ad (or maybe just assuming that) most folks don’t compete because they figure they’re not good enough to be competitive.
So a 180 (so it seems) puts you at the front of the pack even among folks who fancy themselves pretty fair shots.
Makes me wonder what I could score if I would shoot a round “seriously”.... You know, instead of making every target a 4+ shot walk-up!
“Many top shooters... have met or exceeded...”
So that means that not all “top shooters” score that high all of the time?

Hi Chad,
The cost is 3.00 per arrow entered in the Arrowsmith World Championship. Most people have been including an envelope in the box with cash or personal check. More than one arrow can be entered by any individual. The arrow must be made of wood only. Please send your business card or an index card with your name and contact information.
Thanks again, Darren

Matt,
A perfect score on a 20 target course using the T.A.S. Scoring system of 10, 8, 5, 0 would be a 200.
If you shoot in the Recurve Class at a Regional Championship and come in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Place. You will be guaranteed a spot in the shoot-off at the Trad Bowhunter World Championship at Farmland Conservation Club in May.
BTW, Any shooter can qualify for the shoot-off at the Trad Bowhunter World Championship in May. The top 12 shooters in each class are selected from the World Championship to be in the shoot-off. A shooter that qualifies at a Regional championship will be added to that 12.
• At all T.A.S. events, shooters have the option of having their scorecard stamped “Not Competing”. Not competing shooters are not required to keep score and can enjoy unlimited shooting on the 40 target course.

“I assume these events use peered scoring? I hope”
Hi Moose,
Yes, At the T.A.S. Regional and World Championship the Championship Round is peered by class and score.
BTW, I just received a set of TradTech RC Carbon/Maple Limbs from John for my DAS riser. John installed the DAS bushings before shipping it to me. Always excellent service from Lancaster Archery!

Shawn,
Scott was dialed in last year at the T.A.S. Trad Bowhunter World’s. He won the Men’s Longbow Class more than 10 points ahead of second place on the Championship Round in peered grouping going arrow to arrow with the top archers that weekend.
The Team Event, Stump-Shoot, and Broadhead Shoot-Off are 3 events you want to participate in and watch. .
