Well, here in Iowa we are in the middle of the second gun season which will continue to run till next Monday.

Then, we can go out and bow hunt again. I've tried it numerous times, but it sure is never the same. Getting into winter, the deer are bunching up, and they are so wired after all the gun guys tromping through the woods doing their "drives".

Can't decide to bother with it or not this year. Just have to see how the weather behaves and let that be the deciding factor.

Yes here in PA. The late season starts right after Christmas. And what deer that are left don’t move too well. But getting out and hope is a joy to be in the woods, still seeing some wild life or what ever. Good luck to all.

Second season here in PA is always the day after Christmas. I have always gone out with my flint lock and have good success over the years. This is my first year of hunting with a traditional bow so I'm going to give it a shot. Our deer here get pretty skittish after gun season as well so that always make it challenging. It'll be fun no matter what. Good luck and be safe if you decide to go out!

I've taken deer with the bow in late season but so far none have been bucks. Of course by that time I usually opt for the first adult deer to come by. Probably have taken half a dozen in that season over a whole bunch of years. It's a good time to hunt those south facing slopes and thick cover.

A bonus in late season is we can hunt small game as well, so there is usually something to offer a chance.

When I owned Beagles it was my favorite time of year to hunt rabbits in Pa.

I enjoy the late season as well. I sat yestrday afternoon and saw a deer about 75 yds away walking through the woods. I just glimpsed it so not sure if a doe or a buck. Was hoping it would swing around a low spot and head back my way but never saw it again. Have until Jan 1 to try and get another deer so I will be out there. Good luck everyone.

I have hunted the Iowa late season quite a bit. Seems like the first several days of the late season I might as well stay home. But, I have taken several deer in the late season after they settle down a bit. I mainly do afternoon/evening hunts for the late season. I have not done well on the really cold mornings.

This is the first time ever I took a basket 5x5 blacktail in the late season on Thanksgiving day. Actually first deer I ever saw in the late season.

Any day in the woods is a good day, I'll be out. Agree though it can be challenging. Can also be a thing of beauty with a fresh snow.

Went out this morning, didn't see anything. Came home turned in my driveway and there was a 6 pointer looking at me. He just trotted off to the back yard and down the hill toward the Hudson river. Just laughed at myself.

I like late also because of all the guys that think there's no deer left, or exaggerate the effect of the firearm season. Since they then don't go, I usually have all the public land I hunt to myself. Have killed enough deer during this time to keep me going out.

Except for the fawns being born in the spring, there's the same number of deer out there now as there will be next season.

I'm going out yet but it certainly gets much more difficult here.

I saw the buck I'm after standing out in an open lot with a doe Saturday, and gun season ended Sunday. Late bow is open again now until a week from today, so I am going back out after him maybe one more time if the conditions are right. Still holding on to hope that the wind will blow from the east so I can get in on his hidey bed area and wait for him to come in. Him, or his buddy (there are two of them), or one of the nine other sets of eyes they employ for guards. :)))

Second rut should be here soon if not already happening in our area.

I love late season and with the weather we've been having(temps in the mid 20's) it's been great! The only problem I'm having is the APR restrictions, 4pt or better, seems the dumbest deer in the woods are young bucks. The old does are vary wary. Maybe today!

I Like late season, plus with work, it is all I get. 7 degrees today so I had the woods all to myself. Three days left. Rifle ended three days ago and they are very wary, especially for a ground hunter with a longbow. Blew part of today releasing a bobcat on my trap line. She got wound up in the grapple chain and before I could release the trap, chocked herself out. Had to contact the warden so he could pick her up and look at my set. Cats are protected up here and they are everywhere. A lot of guys have given up land trapping as cats are always getting into into their traps.

I love late season also,,,, no better time to hunt in the UP,,,, yes there is a 2 week guns season, I can assure you half the public land has not seen anyone after the first 10 days....

We are into ML season,,,, really I trap I see no road traffic......

Xbows are not allowed in the UP for late season...

its a majic time

We are still in our mid-season here. No real rutting activity yet. That will come late Dec./early Jan.

"Changes in latitudes....."

The best deer hunting in my neck of the woods is Christmas til mid-January. Even though gun season has been going on awhile. I have good spots with little pressure, and they move great around the first of the year.

Yep, no better time to get a giant horse head doe.
