We usually see deer and other wildlife in the context of hunting, being in the woods, mountains, etc. Thought it might be fun to see some unusual pics. This photo, taken by my neighbor, is what inpsired me to post this thread.

Not sure the accuracy of attached photo, but best info I could find on it was - late winter 2008 near Jackman ME... If somebody recognizes it has better and/or more accurate info, please inform...

Only Piebald deer I've ever seen while hunting was in Pennsylvania near Mt Jewett in the Appalachian mts. Was this anywhere near that?

I've seen a few piebalds and albinos in my neck of PA.

Short story long - A few years ago, I took my wife to Vermont where I was raised. She asked if we could show the kids a bear. I told her that was a tall order as I had deer hunted all my life and only had seen 4 or 5 bear. The next day in mid-July, I had a bear run across the road in front the van at noon so closely that I had to break hard to miss it. That evening on the way to dinner, she remarked that she had never seen a moose and wouldn't that be cool. Again, I told her the chances were very low. As you might have guessed by now, I looked out the restaurant window into the back 40 and was able to show her a cow moose grazing in a field before we had placed our dinner order. In the fall of 2017 she was complaining about all the grey squirrels in our yard and I told her that the Redtail Hawk out back would be sure to get a few for her. She asked if I could get a photo which I again told her was not likely. Turned out that I built an antler trap in the back yard after hunting season that year. The first photo I harvested was this not so clear picture of that Redtail hawk landing on one of these grey squirrels who was busy eating corn. As a result, my wife still thinks making game appear is as easy as "just add water and stir".

This isn't mine, but it is unusual.

S. Troll unfortunately no pics of it but I've seen what I would call a melanistic spike twice this year not terribly far from Mt Jewett. The entire thing was gray. No white or brown at all..

Four mule deer bucks feeding in the front yard crab apple tree. Not unusual, but interesting.

This is no pulitzer by any means, but I just filled the bird feeder for the first time this year, yesterday afternoon.

How DO they do that? So fast? Lol. Between the deer & the squirrels every winter, the birds gotta wait their turn. Seed will be scattered all over in a few days, and the surrounding area will be covered in critters furred and reathered.

Filed a bunch of piebald photos through the years... This photo I took of a piebald fawn I actually ran down and caught on foot when I was around 18 or 19, and living in my first apartment, a garage apartment, $80 a month, ya never forget your first apartment...... Why I mentioned the apartment because of the putrid carpet and my age because I couldn't have caught him now a days...8^)

The fawn had short stubby legs like the one in Two-more-steps photo which are common with piebald along with Roman noses...

olboy - Cool looking piebald buck... I chased around a B&C caliber buck about a year 2005-2006 marked very similar to yours..

For two years this buck showed up in a pinch point in early November and last photo was November 28th both years. This photo if form a series where he ran a doe nearly over the camera and only daylight photos in two years. It was a 50/50 chance the buck came by my stand located 75 years from the camera and I was enjoying an early Thanksgiving with Wife's king folk. :) It was killed December 10th a mile from this tract. From what I learned the buck grossed in the high 160s, netting 151.

I watched a large bobcat cross this log from a stand 30 yards away lat eone morning in October. I moved one of my cameras to cover the log and it took two months before I obtained a series of photos of the same of another cat walking the log.

I had this camera on a trail ridge following the shoreline of a 40 acre lake to checking out the deer feeding in a grove of whiteouts. Besides the deer that frequented the area a large, male bobcat walking this trail about every 7/8 days. I was getting turkey photos regularly and finally two old gobblers walked by giving me this photo.

Speaking of flying squirrels, my backyard trail cam happen to catch this one in flight... Feeding year round, have them around year round... Have even had them run up my pant legs, and my coat sleeve while on stand and once while just walking in the back yard at night on hit me atop my head... Talk about a surprise, something hit you up top the head in the dark in the middle of the night will get your attention...8^)

I was surprised at the number of coyotes using this log to cross a small creek.

During the coyote rut this log became a super highway with coyotes using the log daily.

No pics but when we lived on the farm every snowstorm deer would come up on my front porch and walk around and bed down. I'd see the tracks and beds. Bizarre. Made me wonder if they did that every night.

One of two piebalds I've killed. Two days before shooting this small buck I missed, what I assumed, was the litter mate to it, a 1.5 year old doe. I saw a total of three piebalds on this property.

I killed this doe piebald on a large property I leased and ran a hunting club on with a rifle. During a period of several years we identified six different piebalds. One was killed by a car on I-95 which was one of the property borders. The only member of the club to kill one was me. I saw two of the six and spotted one bedded down next to one of the internal roads of the property on a Friday, the day before does became legal.

My brother sent me this picture a couple of years ago, it was sent to him from a friend who found the picture on the Internet . What a horrible way for an elk to go.

NJ this year, photo taken by a friend. State says fibromas, probably due to early stress, weaned too early. Not contagious. Caused by a virus.amazing this buck has lived so long in that condition. Sometimes the masses go away, apparently not in this case. Skin disease.

In Burns, Oregon

Last October, I was perched in a fallen shagbark hickory tree, camera hanging next to the groves spitfire. Lucky enough to catch this mink, hunting the edge of the cornfield along the river.

They are fun to watch crow. Surprised he stopped in one place long enough for you to get a picture.

Yahooty, the bedded muley buck in "Burns" with the "boat" behind it makes me laugh. For those of you who haven't been through Burns, Oregon, it is in the middle of the nowhere eastern Oregon desert! And if the pirate ship is for real, that's really funny. Just to tell how far back in time Burns may be (and maybe for the good!) it is the only place I have eaten, when passing through as a kid, that had a mounted vulture with its wings spread above tables at the cafe! That was rather classic.

Confused....she's been back every day for a week now.

barebow - I'm pretty familiar with flying squirrels, had them as pets years ago, so the ones around my treestands that touches me, wasn't so surprising because I was seeing and hearing them scurrying around me so was aware they were in trees around me... They live in colonies so there is usually more than one... Now the one that hit me in the head out in the open of the yard during the middle of the night this summer kind freaked me... Never seen or heard it coming... First thought was bat, and oh no will need rabies shots... After I got myself together, I stopped and stood there looking and listening... Then heard it scurrying around and chirping in a nearby tree... It didn't draw blood, but it kinda hurt... It was more of a shock factor though...

Photo of one my pet flying squirrels... Eventually had a male and two females at one time, which one even gave birth but they ate the babies...

Forgot to tell - Once had a pair of HUGE fox squirrels run up the side of me while in a treestand... They were chasing each other full bore but I seen them coming...8^)

I spotted this little guy on the road early one morning.

I made friends with a bobcat

I watched this spider stalk and kill a fly on the limb of an osage bow I was working on.

One more. This deer got its back legs caught in a fallen osage tree. There was a layer of ice and snow on the ground for a couple of weeks. This was on a hillside. I could see where it struggled to fee itself. I guess it couldn't get enough traction on the ice with its front legs. What a terrible way to go.

Did Buzzards nest in a barn? I take it they're Black Vultures because of the black faces... Turkey Buzzards (Vultures) we have here have red heads... My dad once came across a Turkey Vulture nest on a rock outcropping, in a big hollow... Said it was one egg setting on a rock...

Zbone, That is my niece. I think it was all she could do to not pick up that fawn and cuddle with it.

There are some old barns on the property where I work. The buzzards lay eggs in the hay lofts. They don't really build a nest. They just lay a few eggs on the hay. I've watched them go from eggs to full grown. The white fluffy babies in that picture were hissing and coming at me. They get more skittish as they get older.

That spider and fly pic is a classic. One of the best ones on here so far!

That wouldn't happen Bearfootin. That bobcat was frozen solid! My friend trapped it and had it in his freezer. He was thawing it out to skin. I couldn't pass up the photo opp.

TrapperKayak: I watched that hunt unfold. The spider slowly crept up on the fly and then pounced on it. It was cool to watch a tiny predator in action.

This is a piebald robin that I caught passing through on the way south with a big flock of robins. They stopped to forage in the apple tree.

I came across this in the trash can in the target frame shed at my gun club.

Osage Outlaw - Cool, thanks for update... Those baby vultures, are they Black Vultures or Turkey Vultures? Black Vultures are more of a southern bird but are expanding their range and are now being seen in Ohio, so just curious...

I'm not sure what kind of vultures they are. We have the black headed ones in SE Indiana now.

The pee sack is the first thing that thaws out on a frozen bobcat. My shirt had a distinct odor after I put that thing down.

I did have a close encounter with a momma bobcat and her kittens. They were living in the attic of a partially fallen down house. I knew something was living up there and I couldn't leave it alone until I knew what it was. I stood on a ladder and made enough noise to bring momma out. As soon as I saw what it was I left in a hurry. Probably one of the dumber things I've done in my life.

Yeah why I ask, the Blacks are expanding their range and are more aggressive than the Turkey Buzzards and we're now seeing Blacks in my area of Ohio.. Buddy had two Blacks fighting with Turkey Vultures over a dead ground behind his house this past summer...

We see a few black vultures here in CNY too, more every year. Mostly turkey vultures though. Never saw any of them when I grew up here, in the 60s and later. Not until late 90s.

What is it?

My wife and I hunt pheasants in Nebraska. This time of year, there are plenty of raptors in the area and I like to keep an eye on who else is hunting our spots. LOL

We see many hawks, golden as well as bald eagles, and even some falcons. I watched a shrewd jack rabbit evade at least four dive attempts from a golden eagle last year. It was better than Wild Kingdom. I am always watching the power poles along the roadway looking for these raptors. Tuesday I spotted something on the pole from quite a distance that just didn't look right. As we got closer, my suspicions were confirmed. It looks like the left talon on this hawk somehow got caught in the power line or top of the pole. I have a lot of admiration and respect for raptors and didn't like to see this kind of ending.

Oct 13 and I'm closing up the camp in Northern VT after the first week of archery season. Loading up the car I come across this guy in the middle of the yard. It's in the low 40's, he's not moving and a long way from the wood line so I scooped him up and buried in the leaf litter. Hope he made it to where he was supposed to be before the snow came.

That pic was in the east fork of the Bitterroot river . Talked to the guy that took it during our firestorms of 2000 in Western Mt.At that time I lived not far up the river from where it was taken. That was not a fun summer. I have an 8x10 in a frame that was given to me.

This guy blocked the road close to Field for a few minutes, we waited.
