Been thinking lately about getting a nice Fanny Pack to wear when I Hunt. I don't really carry that much gear and I just do day hunts from the ground. I'd like to get some suggestions from you Guys. If you use a Fanny Pack, which one do you use and why do you like it? Thanks!

Mine is a Fieldline fleece model and I've had it over twenty years...was about $20.00 new. You can buy a Badlands Ambush for just over $40.00 and it looks like it would take care of your needs. A fanny pack is all I've ever use and the cheaper Walmart models work fine too.

I bought the Badlands Monster. It is super well made, but to be honest, it’s just to big and bulky for hunting around the house and half day hunts. I use a Fieldline model the most, it is absolutely my favorite. I wish I could find another just like it.
I think the Badlands Ambush might be a good size for close range hunting.

I've used the Bison and Duluth fanny packs with shoulder harnesses. Well made and functional, but not for me. Put the weight in the wrong spot. I revert back to a cheap Cabelas cloth day pack I have used for over 30 years or the Asbell wool Haversack or one of the shell bags from Duluth. The haversack or possibles style bags just seem to hang better on me.

I got tired of my fanny pack pushing my pants down around my fanny and bought clip on suspenders for it. But recently I have been having issues with the old pack and bought a Badlands Monster. I wish I had done that a long time ago. I tried a haversack but I wanted better organized system.

If a 'fanny pack' needs suspenders I'd rather use an honest day pack. In fact, I do. Small or large depending on season/need for extra clothing.

After using a fanny pack for many years, I made a transition to a possibles bag/haversack type of carry. I like it because I can rotate it forward for easy access without taking it off, as well as easily moving it out of the way for an unimpeded shot or to clear brush.
I'm not a craftsman by any stretch, but I fashion my own, of varying sizes, by purchasing used women's leather pocketbooks, and then sewing on a leather flap top, and a 1-1/2" leather strap. Very inexpensive, and effective for me.

I use one that is 'MEI' brand, made in USA, got it decades ago as part of a full backpack, and it's just one compartment. I compartmentalize everything in gallon or quart ziplock bags to organize and keep dry in rainy weather. Nothing special needed.

Sportsman Guide Sells a large one can't remember the price pretty reasonable. It has shoulder straps, has two levels with some outside pockets, and a water bottle carrier. The other thing is it has cinch straps to tighten the load or to strap a jacket on. The nicest fanny pack I have ever found especially for the cost and the amount it will carry. DANNY

I bought one at Wallmart years ago also. It is a fleece one, nice and quiet with 4 compartments. It's been limping along the past few years, tears, broken zipper, etc. I fix it now and then to keep using because I can't find another. The new ones are too noisy for me.

Have to say that I checked out the Badlands Monster, and although it looks nice, functional and well made, it is nothing more that a One-Slung-Low backpack by the looks of it. The whole idea of a belt pack to me is to get rid of the cumbersome confining shoulder straps and free up movement to shoot my bow.

Here's mine that my buddy Scott Robertson got for me over two decades ago. It's all fleece and has ample room for a small thermos or a 20oz drink bottle in the big compartment...along with gloves, snacks, etc. Two intermediate pockets carry extras like tab, string, snacks, first aid kit and a place for my Tracfone flip phone. Two really small pockets work for glue, nocks, dental floss, etc.
You can maybe see where I secured two of the zipper bases, but I suspect it will last another ten years at least.

A haversack isn't a fanny pack but some folks like them. I'm not one of those folks since I already likely have a back quiver over the shoulder, and I like physical separation of pockets for easy access.

You asked for a true "fanny pack". Check out www.battlelakeoutdoors.com for their "soft 3-pocket" fanny pack. It's camouflaged and made in the U.S.A. My only complaint is that the belt can tend to slip or loosen as you walk. Maybe light suspenders could be adapted to this fanny pack?

Gents,
Looking for a replacement for my Pack Idaho FTO. It is getting warn as I have owned it since 1997. Have many items to trade or will pay cash. I fined the capacity to be perfect for early an early season elk hunt. Room for rain gear, lite game bags, lunch and a bit more. A little more capacity would be welcome in later seasons when more clothing might be needed. Would prefer wool but I'm flexible on the model, size, material, and camo/color. Thanks for looking!
