Have you checked the size of your photos that's a common cause. Are you doing it from your phone or PC?

Hi Mike,
I haven't posted a pic in a long time and just need a walk thru. I will try to resize my pics but not sure of the posting process.

After typing your text, scroll down to the bottom of the page, where it says 'Embed a photo'.
Click on the 'Browse' button. This will take you to your computer, where you will have to navigate to your picture. (Make sure the picture you want to use has a .jpg file suffix. Other picture file types like .png won't work.)
Select the picture, and you will bne returned to this page. Next to the Browse button, instead of 'No file selected' you will now see 'yourpicturename.jpg'
Click on 'Submit Message' and voila!
It is important that you understand how to resize your picture so it doesn't take too much room. I like to open tha picture on the computer, use file-duplicate, and downsize the copy. That way I retain the original in full size for printing etc.

On my computer, when I select (highlight) my picture name, the dialoge button below says 'open'. Not sure if all browsers and computers use exactly the same terms. (I'm using Firefox on a Mac)

not a bad idea to rename your photo. If you have a photo named 001.jpg. there may already be photo with that name on the server so that photo will come up instead of yours, then we get to see your post that says"I have no idea where that photo came from" Learn how to create a collage on your computer so you can have multiple photos in one post. You may have to download a photo editing program. Pat does not want html photos from another site. There is no need to start a new thread for each photo.

When resizing a photo what is the suggested size for this site? Thanks.

Jim, the one above was resized to 700 pixels wide. I'd stick with 600 maximum normally, just had that one handy.
(When shrinking a picture, reduce the larger dimension, vertical or horizontal. You should see a check box called something like 'keep proportions the same', make sure it's checked. That way it calculates the other dimension for you.)

Photo Size - Photos can not exceed 500 pixels in width
Photo File Size - Photos can not exceed 50k (50,000 bytes) in file size

No you can't post multiple pics in one post. The only way for that is with an off site storeage like photobucket, and Pat doesn't want those used due to virus issues.

This is a screenshot of the dialogue box for sizing pictures. Notice that 'scale proportionately' is checked, and the larger dimension was reduced. (PS this screenshot was reduced to 500!)

After your thread post on this forum you can go back to it and post more pics.

Raghorn, I take it you inserted multiple images into a document, then exported it to a j-peg ? Advanced stuff! ;-)

PS it's a *good* approach as long as the total collage is resized to the specs Phil states above.
Going to try it with a few knife pix...

DanaC, thanks for the tips on reducing width. However even after you have done so, most photos taken with a cell phone will still be more than 50k bytes. 50k is actually a very small photo. Do you know how to reduce the file size, other than trial-and-error?

I use a free photo manager called PhotoScape X Pro. After you download your photos from whatever to your computer you open this program and your date that the photo was taken will show, just click on it and it will open then drag it to the main box and you can do what ever you want with it even multiples. You can reduce it to 400 pixels and then bring it back to the original size without increasing anything. This is what I have been using for the past three years, works great no problems at all.

Jason, I was having trouble too until I got a Windows 10 computer. Now I transfer a photo from my I-phone to my computer and use either the small or medium size for transferring. Then I just go to my photos file on my computer and double click the image into the "Embed a Photo" below, and it's done. George was kind enough to flip one around once, which was appreciated.

Using an off-site depository is what Pat objected to. Maybe he or Phil can speak to that again. It seems those sites tend to be nurseries for virus and adware, etc. I stopped using photobucket for that reason several years ago.
