I am working on a half dozen arrows that need to be footed to get the proper length. My normal four pointed foots were 6 1/2 inches of purple heart. To get the 29 inches of arrow length needed for these arrows, I need to make the footings 8 1/2 inches. I have not made a foot that long before. Does anyone see a problem with that length footing? Thanks TLM

I have put different length feet on broken stumpers without any problems. Purple Heart is a very heavy wood so your arrows would vary more in front end weight. I like to use oak for repairing my stumping arrows.

The only footings I have done were with aluminum shafts but I'd love to see a picture of what you're doing or what you've done. I'm assuming you're putting wood on wood? Jim

GF I posted a build-along back in Feb of 2013 to make a jig to cut the tapered grooves for the feet and how to make the feet and finish the arrow but the pictures no longer come up for me.

If you don't want to go to the trouble of footings, Jim Davis sells Reparrow Products that will work for most. Jim's a member here.

You can do 2 foot arrows pretty easily with hand tools, some twine, a vise and some good wood glue. I will need to do some in the spring when I can work in the barn again. you can make the footings as long as you need to make length. Attention to detail will get you a nice, straight arrow.

Sailor, Thanks, I assemble my own wood arrows. I have many that are well done ,but too short as they were for the other three growing bowhunters in the family, who now have longer draw lengths, so I'm getting these arrows back in the game. I'm using the four footed jig sold by three rivers. It works great when the router is set up for it. I can do many a run creating the fluted ends rather efficiently. Jawge I always enjoy your site!! Reparrows are the ticket for bringing a broken arrow back to length. They are 4" long but you could use two to get 8". They are incredibly precise and easy to align with your shaft.

Google Reparrows and you can find them. I use them all the time, they come in 5/16", 11/32" and 23/64", I order a size up from my shaft and sand them down at the joint for a perfect fit. Being cherry or walnut they add a little forward weight to your shaft. They have a perfect female taper cut in one end to fit you shaft.

Repair arrow are great I also use them on reed arrows. Gary
