Hi TEAM, I was over on You Tube and stumbled across something about the NEW Robin Hood Movie? Take a look and see what You think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZsQmlZclTo

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 12-Nov-18

It's going to be targeted toward today's audience...flying people and weird critters ala video games genre. I'm glad there are still the old standards to watch. Alas the old guard is dying off and the new ones will take their place.

From: The Whittler
Date: 12-Nov-18

It's Hollyweird how do you think it's going to be. The new and improved version according to them.

From: sagebrush
Date: 12-Nov-18

He is in love with little John I'm sure

From: nineworlds9
Date: 12-Nov-18

Robin Hood visits Urban Outfitters. The End.

People loving that redistribution of wealth theme nowadays.

What do you expect? People equating dogs with kids now. Idiocracy is here.

From: MGF
Date: 13-Nov-18

I think I'll skip this one.

From: Phil
Date: 13-Nov-18

I live a ten minute drive from Sherwood Forest. Doesn't look like Derbyshire Nottinghamshire or Yorkshire to me

From: DanaC
Date: 13-Nov-18

In this version Robin uses Jedi mind tricks to baffle Prince John and Guy of Gisborne. Maybe the Expelliarmus spell to disarm his opponents...

From: Wild Bill
Date: 13-Nov-18

I might do better with the quarterstaff training.

From: Woods Walker
Date: 13-Nov-18

"He is in love with little John I'm sure"

Well going by today's standards, "Little John" may have started out as Maid Marion.....or vice versa!

From: Iwander

I prefer i'd prefer re-reading the old Ballad of Adam Bell and Clem of the Clough

I'm not going to bother with this one. Sagebrush, that's funny. I told my wife to target new society hes probably fallen for a character named "Maiden Marvin".

Not sure abut the rest of you but I am so tired of being spoon fed the last progressive garbage by the entertainment industry.

From: 76aggie

I don't think I will be standing in line for this one either.

From: hardnocks

I just chocked on my coffee ! Finally got to read a thread before it gets shut down.

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Just take some time to review what the popular movies are about, as well as the myriad 'games' that are made like movies now but with interactivity by the user. I can't even wrap my mind around that. But I also remember we were all going to hell for dancing to rock and roll in the mid 50's. Time changes everything.

From: The Whittler
Date: 13-Nov-18

George, your right about dancing to Rock n Roll and going out o hell :-). I wonder at times if we're not there the way the World/people are.

From: Salvador 06

When I found out that the fraud Lars Andesen was involved, I said no thanks.

From: FITTER

Ill prolly watch this one like all the others.... im a sucker for a Robin Hood movie !! :)

From: NY Yankee
Date: 13-Nov-18

About every 10 years or so, someone has to do a remake of Robin Hood. Im surprised it's not "Robyn Hood" by now. I liked the Kevin Kostner one.

From: South Farm
Date: 13-Nov-18

"But I also remember we were all going to hell for dancing to rock and roll in the mid 50's. Time changes everything."

Perhaps, but you ain't dead yet; You'll have to wait and see what happens George!

Absolutely no interest in this version of Robin Hood,,,,none

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 13-Nov-18

It looks interesting (for the action), so I'll probably watch it eventually. Don't know that I'll pay to go to the theater to see it though.

Lars Anderson is interesting to watch. I'd love to see him shooing a standard indoor 300 round, and a standard IBO or ASA 3D course for score.

If he can consistently pull off even average scores of those two, then combined with his other stuff I'd have to say "My Hat's Off To Him".

Rick

I would rather watch the animated version narrated by Roger Miller then this new release.

From: WoodsMaster

My Wife and I went and saw the new Robin Hood movie. I liked it, she loved it. I am glad we went, and it was fairly entertaining. Best part was I had a Fandango gift card from my oldest Son for a dinner and a movie. Definitely Lars Anderson influenced. LOTS of action.

I've had the abysmal misfortune to suffer seeing the film ... believe me... it's absolutely dreadful

From: Grim
Date: 24-Nov-18

I saw the movie. The action in the animated version was just about as believable, and the cartoon fox, that played robin, was a better actor. It made my eleven year old appreciate Flynn's version even more.

From: Tradarcher4fun
Date: 24-Nov-18

I’m up for any action movie with bow & arrows. I won’t pay to see it. Will eventually hit Netflix or Pluto TV.

From: RonG
Date: 24-Nov-18

Lars Anderson does what he does and shows how the warriors did it back then, maybe not to that extreme. Lars should not be put down for what he does, but that wimpy white haired dude shooting distance and shooting toward a target on the ground (did you see his release) I never laughed so hard.

As mentioned earlier, that dude drawing an arrow from his waist quiver, I believe the enemy would have died from old age before he got his arrow out and nocked it.

At least they aren't using some rifle that shoots fifteen arrows when you pull the trigger and the actor portraying Robin Hood has worked very hard to get this down as described. He is doing something that is possible with a stick, string and arrow. I see nothing wrong with it. When they start shooting light beams and other crap that is when I call a halt.

I don't think I will ever go to war shooting arrows so I don't really need to learn this style, but if I was I wouldn't last long against someone who can.

From: Phil
Date: 24-Nov-18

Quote"

Lars Anderson does what he does and shows how the warriors did it back then, "

That's absolute nonsense

From: The Whittler
Date: 24-Nov-18

Lars Anderson does what he does to get his name out there, hey look at me, look at me. We all know they don't lie on the internet. :-)

From: Tom McCool

I look forward to watching it cause new stuff can be interesting even if I dismiss it. Also then I can contribute something more to this thread.

From: NY Yankee
Date: 24-Nov-18

Ya, IF I see it at all, it will be Netflix or maybe Redbox rental. I cant/wont afford theaters anymore.

From: RonG
Date: 24-Nov-18

I like to see any of you armchair archers duplicate what he does.

You have to get him credit for his ability.

OK recess is over you kiddies go back to your rooms and don't run.

From: Draven
Date: 24-Nov-18

If someone will have the patience to read this :

https://pgmagirlscouts.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/saracen_archery.pdf

Maybe will realize that the "nonsense" is not that nonsense ... Is Lars the authority? No, but how many Arab / Turkish Consultants do you think Hollywood willingly will like to advertise?

From: Kodiak
Date: 24-Nov-18

The movie sounds absolutely dreadful.

From: SteveBNY
Date: 24-Nov-18

Whether or not someone posting here can or cannot do what Lars does has no bearing in anyway way as to the historical accuracy of his claims - none.

From: old fudd
Date: 24-Nov-18

Errol Flynn. Robin Hood.. The others Robber Hoods,

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 24-Nov-18

I'm sure it will be fine for certain audiences, most of the movies released today are about guys who can jump three stories and shoot on the fly. It's not targeted to old pharts like me and that's okay. There are plenty of Robin Hood movies and books to keep us entertained.

From: Squirrel Hunter
Date: 26-Nov-18

Lars' athletic ability and trick shooting skills are impressive. However, historically or from any othe practical standpoint, I'm not impressed. His youtube demos and most of the scenes in the movies trailers are all based on shooting partially drawn, ultralight bows (not so good in an era when people wore armor) at people attacking at very close ranges. That last part isn't useful since, as we all know, arrows have no shock value. They'll kill people, but won't knock them down or stop an attack. Kind of like shooting a charging grizzly with a .45 -- it may kill him, but not soon enough to do you any good. Historicaly, it's all BS.

If only that were the biggest problem with the movie...

From: DanaC
Date: 26-Nov-18

Word is the movie tanked at the box office, possibly the biggest flop of 2018

From: MStyles
Date: 26-Nov-18

“That last part isn't useful since, as we all know, arrows have no shock value. They'll kill people, but won't knock them down or stop an attack”. Squirrel Hunter I disagree. If someone took a direct hit with a War arrow from a English Warbow, they’re going down, and I mean now.

From: unhinged
Date: 26-Nov-18

I'm sure people talked trash about the original movie. It's entertainment, nothing more. Have some fun, don't take yourselves too seriously. That said, I probably won't see it. I'm too cheap to buy a movie ticket.

From: Kev
Date: 26-Nov-18

My son saw it and HATED it. He said they didn't even try to hide the liberal - leftist agenda.

From: Styksnstryngs
Date: 26-Nov-18

It was boring and a bad movie. No plot, etc. In terms of politics, it's just a movie about redistribution of wealth with violence, all Robin hood movies had that.

From: DanaC

it's not 'an archery movie' it's a lame re-telling of a classic folk tale which has been re-told and re-told and...

I wouldn't give a rat if the next re-telling of Batman or Superman etc etc crashed and burned either. Bad, incompetent lazy story-telling deserves no better.

From: Nick Muche

I keep reading people saying; "the original is best". While I agree that my favorite version is with Errol Flynn (except for Will's stupid fake/stage lute), the 1938 movie is NOT the original version. The original was made in 1922 with Douglas Fairbanks Sr. ..... ..... The 2018 version seems similar to the 2009 British Robin Hood TV series with Jonas Armstrong. He uses a recurve-ish bow in a more 'early-urban' setting. I will probably go to see the new one, but will keep in mind what it is and isn't. That said, I can't stand Jamie Foxx in anything. He is majorly annoying in his action movies. Foxx seems to be playing a part similar to what Morgan Freeman played in the 1991 Kevin Costner version. For all the naysayers, "To avoid fainting, keep repeating 'It's only a movie...it's only a movie...'" ... And what? No love for the 1969 movie The Ribald Tales of Robin Hood

Did anyone notice that the bow was a steel take down recurve bow. since I am learning to forge I thought I might give this a try the shape is easy enough and making it a take down should be pretty easy.

From: MStyles

From: pockets
Date: 30-Nov-18

Honestly, the 2018 'urban-swashbuckling/Parkour' Robin and whatever goofiness Foxx adds probably can't be any worse than the much of the 1938 flick. .... I love Errol Flynn movies! BUT; Most of us just ignore Robin's never-empty quiver, Will's Lute 'prop' without strings or real tuning head, all of the bending rubber swords (really watch Errol in the castle fights), the stuffed deer, the white 1930s vehicle seen driving down the road in the background (sort of like the Lord Of The Rings white car goof), armor/weapons from all over the timelines, even the infamous robinhooded arrow....it's really goofy and just typical 1930's Hollywood, when they cranked out film after film with their stable of company actors. .... But hey. I'd rather watch Errol in Robinhood, Dawn Patrol, Captain Blood over and over, than to ever watch Jamie Foxx attempting to act. :-)

From: MGF

re forging a bow.

The thing is that you're making a spring so the geometry combined with alloy and heat treating is what does it.

I've forged and heat treated quite a few blades and made only a few wood bows but I can't imagine trying to get steel limbs tillered correctly.
