Anyone familiar with these takedowns?

From: Clydebow
Date: 06-Nov-18

I've had two and liked both. Killed three deer with the first one the first month I had it. Only used the second at 3Ds. I'm thinking that was 1997.

I actually just bought one a month ago. Honestly I shoot this bow better than any Ive owned hold better groups it is smooth quiet and quick. Mine 47 at 28 but I draw 31 in so im guessing around 52lb at my draw. The finish on mine is flawless and just love this bow. Ive owned many different high end bows including Black Widows,21st century,, Jeffery, Allegeny mountain also Martins Bears and this is my all time favorite.

Keith makes what I call a working mans bow. They shoot very well, and I have owned a couple myself. But when you order one its like the box of chocolate thing, you are never sure what you are going to get. I have seen some amazing completed bows and then their are the others. Thats my 2 cents. Good luck.

I fortunate enough to be at rsmg and was able to try 4 different ones. If possible try and shoot some before buying. Rocky mountain specialty gear is a dealerso they have a few on hand.

I always wanted one of those when I started traditional many years ago. Still like the looks of them. First saw them in Traditional Bowhunter magazine when they started. DANNY

Has anyone shot his super Kodiak reproduction? Does it have his limbs or is it closer to the original?

The average or not so good looking bows are from people who do not specify their desired materials or leave out specifications. Keith is a man of function. If it is not specified by the customer, it will be functional, but not all the time aesthetic in a customers mind. It is hard to guess the tastes of customers. Aesthetics is a problematic field anyways, since I have bows from him which I deem "butt ugly" which several people think are "super pretty". Since I am field representative for Keith and have some of his bows as "show bows", I never had any aesthetic issues if the client ordered the bow through me and we nailed all specifications down. Some of the stock bows are made from "left-over pieces" of wood, no doubt, and they will be of course fully functional but not always the prettiest gal in the stable. Some of those may just be the bow for you if it shoots where you look. @Lucas: The Super Kodiak reproduction has the Super Kodiak style Limbs. The Duggan Special is a Super Kodiak style TD.

Just got a 58" TD back in September. 45 @ 28, I draw 29.5. No idea what woods were used, I'm guessing wenge and osage. Love it. Fast and quiet. Grip fits me great. Limb design is pretty awesome. Haven't seen any other limbs like them. They come with mojo as well. Already took a nice doe back in October and just shot my first buck this morning with it. Really like this bow.

I currently own 3 of his bows - 2 recurves and a Spike III TD longbow. I have also owned and sold a 4th. So that tells you I like them. I will say this - the fit and finish is not comparable to some higher end customs. I have refinished 2 of 3 I currently own. But - in my mind, his recurve limbs are fantastic. They are the best mix of speed, smoothness, and quietness that I've personally found. There are dozens of custom bowyers who's products I've never tried, admittedly, so it's not an across-the-board comparison. But I am a big fan of Keith's bows for their function. Fit and finish is average to below average when compared to other bows at the same "new" price point. If you can get a used one at a good price, they are GREAT shooting bows.

Again, I currently own 3...so I obviously like them :)

I met Kieth and have one of his bows. Smoothest, hardest hitting recurve I have shot. Quiet too. I doubt I'll ever part with this bow. 60" 50#@28"

Nice buck Chris! Get some more Mojo on this bow! In order to compare high end bow fit and finish, one really needs to compare construction details. It is a good amount of additional work to glue the bolt hardware in from the opposite side instead of just gluing it in like all other bowyers are doing it. The two bolts will take more time than a bolt and a pin. The wood plugs need to be fitted as best as possible and glued in. The riser is then hand shaped on sanders using templates, no CNC machine or else. Thin exotic veneers are not possible on his limb design (he showed me the attempts and they all failed due to the radical curve of the hook). This would not make a durable bow and thus is not offered in his bows using the Wapiti limb design. I hunt together with Keith a good amount of time and his bows are treated tough in the mountains. These are hunting tools not a tool that requires babying. Even in these adverse conditions, his factory finish lasts and protects the bow. He can easily refinish the bow without spending an arm and a leg on shop time. That is also an advantage to the customer. Shipping and refinishing is not breaking the bank if required. In comparison to Keith frosted finish, the finish on my Morrison recurves and longbows is by far less durable and prone to chipping. Side by side Keith bows shoot as fast as bows that were designed almost 20 years later. Same poundage, same arrow gpp I will get the same performance. If you are this long in business as he is, you know what works and what doesn't. Being a hunter he would never build a Supercurve for example, as those bows are imho not tough enough for a long service life. Could he build one? I bet he could, but he wouldn't want to have the customer spend $800 on a set of limbs. I can get a whole bow from him for that price, decked out with options. His 2 piece tD for the longbows brought me to his bows back in the days, as you could get a 2 piece LB for an additional $50 back then. Now it is $75. Try to get that from any other bowyer. All my bows from him are between 15 and 20 years old and doing fine.

I had this one about 14 years ago and killed a deer with it. 55lbs, 64" long. I chronographed another one that was 54lbs, 62" long with a 500 grain arrow that shot 189 fps with a B50 string.

I've owned one they are fast, hard hitting, and that was with a B -50 string. The finish is flaking a little bit, I would agree with saying it's a woring man's bow.

Does he only recommend B50 on his bows or does he build the tips for High Performance Materials also? DANNY

I used to shoot a friend's. Older model so D50 string. Plain looking but good shooting. Brown glass, light colored riser. I had a chance to buy it but is is 61# and a bit too heavy for me. I think he still has it.

This is mine that I foolishly sold and then re-purchased. I had zero complaints about the fit and finish, it actually came out much better than I expected. When I bought it back the glass had delaminated on the belly side of the limb near the tip. I e-mailed Keith and told him the history, he said to send it in and he'll try to fix it, worse case scenario I'll have him build another limb. Keith has been very good to me since I started shooting his bows, I currently own a Spike III t/d and this recurve.

The Wapiti has been around for decades and that alone should prove its mettle. Had one back in a previous century and it was everything you could ask in a recurve bow. Traded it because it eventually was too much for me to keep after at 64#. Matter of fact I traded it on a Bridger Mountain longbow if my brain is figgerin' right.

I remember eyeballing his ads when I was a kid in the eighties...... great looking bows!!
