Yeah, just started last year, get one that's very adjustable so you can wear over different amounts of layers! If I can remember I'll let you know what I'm using, it's one that's popular with climbing schools because of the adjustability of it. Bought it at REI on the advice of the sales clerk who was a rock climber. Then also buy a fairly short tether(mines a foot or foot and a half when stretched taught, it's a loop of webbing material) to hook to your safety rope, I have more movement available now and practically can't fall out of the stand, will still be at bottom platform level or better if I do, to climb back on

I have been using one for the past 2 seasons. Mine is a black diamond, and I use the tether rope with prussic slide from my SOP (Seat of the pants made by SUMMMIT) for a tether. Cheaper, lighter, more flexible and comfy. I still use a conventional climbing harness if I am hanging hang on stands with a linemans hitch, but the climbing harness can work for that also. Make's it much easier to shoot to right and behind the tree. Much more freedom of movement, and feel safer (for me).

I find they are safer in general as well. IF I end u hanging, I want to be facing the tree for self rescue, not facing away and fighting the tether to get turned back around...

I also use a rock climbing harness and love it.
Many different models and prices. As Michael mentioned pay close attention to the build of the harness if you are using it with a linesmans rope for putting up sticks or a stand. Some have secure places on the side for attachment but most gear loops are NOT RATED FOR A LINESMAN'S ROPE. So either get a model that does have rated side attachments or attach the linesmans rope in front.

I went with an Alpine harness because of the adjustable leg loops. Lets you get it right no matter what you’re wearing, and you DO want your weight in the leg loops and not just the waist belt. Get that wrong and you may as well just throw a noose around your waist.
As mentioned, the big trick is to simply fall as short a distance as possible. JMO, if you can’t just turn yourself around and scoot your butt onto the foot platform, your tether is too long.

I use a Black Diamond harness. My daughter is a rock climbing instructor and has given me suggestions on how to stay safe. Biggest positive is that after you fall you will be facing the tree . Self extraction is much simpler when you can see what your"up against"....just an opinion...bye for now

I’ve been using one for several years. It’s a Black Diamond Couloir Harness. I had lineman loops sewn in. I also use a Amsteel “soft shackle” instead of a carabiner attached to a 3ft of 1” webbing. I attach that to a prusik line

I use a tree spider and in the past a SOP,,, however I like the rock system, because if you fall out of the tree, lets say you pass out, your physically set up better

And this is the lanyard I attach from harness to prussic knot on safety rope, it's about a foot and a half long stretched tight, basically a sewn loop of webbing material

How do connect to the safety line while climbing up into your stand. Any you tube videos showing how these harnesses work?

With a carabineer to a prussic knot, I use a climbing stand and just move the safety rope up as I go, the picture in my last post is the tether and carabineer attached to my harness and yes there are videos on YouTube

Saw a couple questions on climbing up to your stand with a RCH. Yan can still use a linemans belt right off the center belay loop. It takes a littl getting use to(just shifting your body left and right a little more to get it past a step or stick) but works just fine. I believe the DIY Sportsman on youtube has some good videos on using a RCH and how to setup another system for a linemans belt as well.
