Popped into a pawn shop today to see if they had any recurved and walked out with a blackbear compound for a $20 bill. Came home and stripped it down to just the riser. Thinking I’m going to send it out to get milled ILF. I love the feel of this riser

They make great Warfs or Frankenbows for sure.

Beware! If you ILF it, you’ll forever be ruined! Your expensive bows will gather dust! :)

Darrin ive heard this before! im excited to try it out...getting it milled and going to put some medium blackmax limbs on it.

Yes, it is and a life of good shooting with any limb you chose, or limbs. All I hunt with these days is a BB warf.

Nice find. Are you leaving the camo? I think it looks sharp. Lance

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 10-Oct-18

lance im definitely leaving the camo on the riser...will probably spray bomb the limbs some sort of camo to try and match

From: gluetrap

never knew what dead in the hand meant until I shot a BB warf.

found a set of medium carborn tradtechs in #45 for a great price so I bought them...sent the riser out to sam today...im excited

From: Salvador 06

What options are there, besides milling it for ILF?

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 11-Oct-18

you can purchase plates that drop into the limb pockets that have the ilf cutouts in them...or there are some bolt down limbs like samick limbs that will bold directly on..

From: 3Ditional

Tradtech longs makes a 65 1/2 in. bow on my BB riser. A string length of 61 1/2 in. made for a sweet shooting bow.

FIY, with my Tradtech Blackmax 2.0 longs, I've lost 5 lbs. on what's marked on the limbs.

You may call Lancaster Archery for more specs to be sure.

AGREE 100% with DarrinG!

Using 50lb medium Trad Techs on my BB. It is shooting better than me.

Bud ive heard they shoot great! I’ve only dabbled in ILF but I was shooting a nice mass weight metal riser with TT limbs in the past and i wish I’d nevr sold it. I think it’s a super genius idea to re use an old compound riser that if I didn’t buy would have wound up as scrap metal. Repurposed wheel bow into a trad bow is a very cool thing to me. And for the price it really makes sense!!!

PS I’m kind of a bear nerd too so that’s icing on the cake!

Also, I had one, traded it, regretted it. Then last summer I stopped by to visit a neighbor up the road. As we talked in his garage I spied an old black bear hanging on the wall. He didn't have any use for it so he gave it to me; wouldn't even accept a 12 pack for it. I have since warfed it, so I'm happy to have one again.

Welcome to the club. I have a few custom bows, and find myself shooting my Blackbear Warf it just shoots so good.

From: stickhunter
Date: 19-Oct-18

Congrats on the new Warf Darron. I have B.B. and Rambo warfs all done by Loc..they all shoot as well as any of my other bows.

Did you get a set of limbs for it yet? I’m 28” draw and mine really like medium limbs. I run around 8-7/8 brace and they shoot great and pretty quiet.

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 19-Oct-18

ive got some TT carbon mediums on it now stick...brace is at 8.25 I may have to see how it shoots with a little higher brace...its hunting quiet but not as quiet as I know it can be

Date: 19-Oct-18

Anyone care to share what brace height they run on their BB setup

From: 3Ditional
Date: 20-Oct-18

I have Trad Tech longs on my BB and an 8 1/2 in. brace height works great for me.

From: Sam Dunham Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 20-Oct-18

brace height may be started by looking at the limb relief cuts in the curves and adjusting BH until the string is just about to cast off the limbs out of the bottoms of the groove. Limbs are different in design and may require a BH not in a general category. Say for instance on Kaya K-2's, they are designed to use a bit more BH and on my BB warf these use an 8 3/4. My other Kaya foam core limbs will adjust with a low BH at about 8. The other consideration is tuning and bare shafting your arrows. It is always best to start at the low end of your BH and tune there.

Another consideration is noise and vibration. I set my BH where the sweet spot is in tuning to have the quietist vibration free Bow.

thanks for the info! im going to get some time this afternoon in the barn to play some more with it...going for a morning hunt after work and then going to get a nap in...we are expecting some wild wind this afternoon so this guy wont be in a tree! hopefully some better conditions for sunday!

From: DarrinG
Date: 20-Oct-18

Ive not measured the brace height on my JBL Warf, but it tuned the best with the string barely off the string grooves on the limbs. In other words, the end of the factory-cut string grooves towards the riser, the string shows just a tad of the groove. I played with it up and down from there and that's where mine performed the best. I can glance at the limbs and string and tell if a string has stretched and the brace is on or off easily.

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 20-Oct-18

i went ahead and adjusted my brace until the string was just off the grooves in the limb and measured. just about exactly 8.5 BH....shot the bow..bam! much much quieter and performed much better..i thought this bow was dead before but it is even better going up a 1/4 in brace. eliminated the slight metallic noise I was hearing...wasn't loud at all, but was there and noticeable...this thing is a shooting machine!!!ready to let the air out of a deer with it! thanks everyone!!
