That first pic you put up is Dave Wallace, one heckuva nice guy who still earns it the hard way. Shot with him and a Friend at IBO World Championship in Pipestem this year. 65 years young shooting a 50# bow of his own making. They don't come any more legit than Dave. I'm in the blue shirt, Dave in the middle and Cody on the end.
By the way Dave is a fierce competitor, he scored very well this year. You can't throw a shot with Dave around. Calvin is good people too. He's one of the reasons I took up competitive longbow. Calvin made us fresh walleye outside his camper in Pipestem, it was delicious!
I've known Cal for along time! I tried to buy one of his sentimental 21st bows a few years ago. It worked! At the World Championship in TN. I brought it home. The next day he called saying his bowyers business burned down and needed his bow back. What do you do? You send it back to him! I have a copy of his bow now since 21st is no longer in business made by Gregg at Javaman. Good stuff!
The amount of movement is essentially all the same regardless of the style used.
Shooting using either method, you have to raise the bow and point it at the target. 2 different raods to end up at the same place.
The main difference comes in the time at anchor, again, based on the term "swing draw" as it is normally used here, meaning as in "Hill" style shooting.
????? I have been told that shooting straight line draw is hard on your muscles.. Hence the reason for rotational draw. Can some explain to me what exactly is swing draw??

Before you get your panties in a wad, I didn't shoot a pop can off of anyone's head. One day my neighbor told someone that i could shoot a beer can off of his head. Then he changed his mind, because he didn't want to waste a beer and changed it to a Pepsi. i didn't want to waste the pepsi, not a beer drinker, so I got a gallon plastic milk jug. The other guy, a salesman, comes up with felt tip pens and drew a face on the milk jug. I set it on a folding chair with the Pepsi on top. My neighbor said, "watch this, he could shoot that right off my head if he wanted." I shot the face on the milk jug right between the eyes, then opened the Pepsi which dramatically squirted all over the place. Well we sat in shade and drank out selected brews, Mel kept asking whether I shot the milk jug on purpose or if I missed the Pepsi can and hit the jug by accident. When my Pepsi was was gone, I went back stood on the 18 yard mark and shot the Pepsi can for him.
You know I wish Jeffer would prep Lucy with some 3D targets and take her to the World 3D shoot. I would put in a sponsorship for her and work on getting her more sponsors.
Would like to see her give the Women at the shoots some competition and learn even more from them.
Sandy McCain would be all in to help too and she is a World class lady and Hunter/Archer.
I would like to do this if Jeffer and Lucy are up for it?

babysaph, swing-draw is an archery shooting sequence that aligns the arrow toward the target using an upward motion (swing) for bow hand and pulling the string (draw) in same time. Once at full draw the arrow is launched toward the target without hesitation, the entire shooting sequence being described as fluid. The promoter of this form was Howard Hill. He considered it as the most efficient way of shooting the bow when hunting. John Shultz described this shooting sequence in a video that ended somehow on youtube.
Dave Wallace is the Man.. As Jeff said he is shooting a D bow with wood arrows and he is good enough to keep most the RU guys at bay.
Do not associate any mystical Trad garb to Dave. He shoots split/gap, He holds at full draw like a man no snap shooting junk and he has ice in his veins when shooting under pressure.
I am amazed we do not hear more about how a guy with a hunting weight D bow and wood arrows can compete.
Can't speak for the 80 yards, but at 60 he'll shoot 9" groups consistently all day long. I've watched him do it. When shooting a 20 yard blue face, I'll have a flyer now and again- -maybe 2 feet to the left. When Dave has a flyer, it may be as much a 2 inches. He'll probably average in the 270's with that Hill-syle longbow.
He's a phenomenal shot, but then he's worked hard to get that good too.
... and Sam, he's not only a past IBO World Champion (several times), he's the current World Champion.
