I’m not sure I’m getting you on this one. Splicing to me is cutting a feather section or sections out and remarrying dif ones together. What does kool aid have to do w it?

Not really a splice, but...

Yes. Like the Rifleman shows. It would be very hard to get distinct lines but I think the fade is very attractive. >>>----> Ken

You may be able to pull the quills apart and dip carefully for a clean "splice" but that sounds a lot like work.

exactly - anyone ever pull the quills apart and "splice"? this would eliminate the need to have 2 different feathers. in other words color only part of the feather. thx mg

I'd bet a saturated q-tip would allow decent control.

Yes, I'd like to know how Rifleman did that. Very nice looking.

Thanks guys! I just started with white feathers i cut to length. After washing them w dishsoap and rinsing, i heated a coffee mug half full of water in microwave, added 3 packets of orange KoolAid and 1tbsp vinegar. Then i stood feathers up in mug for about 20-30 minutes. Careful when taking them out as its easy to get dye on your fingers and then on white section. Also start w less liquid than you think you need so you have more whitetail. Another tip--- i got a great yellow color using food coloring.
