I have been shooting GN's for years. I bought the last SG Jerry made before he retired. I have set up recurves for years but this bow makes noise at the shot. Sounds like reverb off the wood but I have mole skin under each limb end for string lap, good silencers, brace is perfect and arrow spine perfect. Befuddled! Anyone had this? Ideas?

Try changing the brace height, move your hand around the grip to different spots both vertically and horizontally, change the make up of the string, move the string silencer's. Something in the set up isn't perfect unless there is a SERIOUS limb return to brace problem.

I would try a boa strap on quiver to settle limbs down?

I had a Super Ghost, it was whisper quiet. Brace was 7 1/2 inch if I remember correctly. What is your brace height ?

Maybe the tillers of Ed or the limb is not tracking like it should on the draw and recovery.I know you know how to set a bow up.

I have had 3 Super Ghosts and they typically dont require alot of tinkering and painstaking tuning or troubleshooting to get reasonably quiet.Like all thier bows.

What I might do personally is try an SBD bowstring with wool puffs,a heavy arrow and limb savers if all else fails.Limb savers do work great on particular bows that for whatever reason have noise issues.They have turned bows that I loved in every way but were to loud into quiet shooters.Mount them just above the fadeouts about 2 inches if you ever try them.

A quiver can absorb some vibration as well.

I thought I would get a few of your ideas before responding. Ye, I have been a GN shooter for almost 20 years and they are the easiest to tune and are always quiet. I've had 1 SG and my go to has been my Bushbows but I've had a CGitter and Fireball 1. I have a GN quiver on so that rubber always helps -I will try the limb savers! 2. Stock string on, Jerry's 16 strand D97 - I have a Ten Ring string coming with puff silencers. May wrap the top 7# who I get it. Allen's strings are quiet. 3. BH is 7 1/4 - I'm going to increase to 7 1/2" 4. Tiller - May be my nemesis even though I have shot all their bows 3 under with no special tillering - This is the only thing I can think of that could be doing this. 5. Release - I been shooting 35 yrs and release has never been an issue. 6. Rest and Side material are stock calfhair - Don't think this is an issue but could be in conjunction with the tiller if thats an issue.

Tiller - Bottom tiller is 1/4" lower than the top. I shoot 3-under and have really never had an issue with split finger tiller, however, 1/4" seems drastic. Thoughts?

Hey Ed-Just a thought; have you had someone else listen when you shoot? I picked up a pristine Jackknife Ghost awhile back, and it was loud for me as received. Raised the brace to 7.5", found the right arrow, and replaced the catwhiskers with Two Tracks string scallops which helped alot, but it still seemed a little loud to me, and I've hesitated to hunt with it. Shoots like a house afire, though, so I've been messing with it again. Still seems loud compared to the Lil Creep and the Bushbows I've had, but everyone who's been standing by when I shoot have remarked how quiet it is...GN Kickback quiver, no pads or string wraps, split finger, 2015 vintage by Jerry. Grip pressure seems to make a little difference; it's the index grip, and seems quieter when I heel it. Recorded myself with the phone shooting the Creep and Ghost side by side from about 5 feet, and cant tell a difference in sound.

Hey Daryl; Great to hear from you. Those are good ideas. I just raised the BH to 7 1/2 and its a bit better. I have shot alone and no one has heard or compared. I have not thought of comparing by recording the sound and I'll do that today. This bow shoots fast and right where I look as all GN's for me and hopefully this bow can go to the woods next week end. Ed, check with Bob about the tiller being off at 1/4"...he just re tillered a Bushbow of mine that was off from the get-go. It was noisy as you stated with everything tuning wise on my end that could be done. He corrected the problem. Bob will be happy to assess the bow for you.

Ed have you tried a higher nocking point, say 5/8 to 3/4?

Can't say anymore than has been said above. My Super ghost is longbow quiet. All I use are the brush buttons that came with it and rubber cat whiskers.

Just checked mine. 1/8" positive tiller...again, shooting split. I'd do as Scott suggested and call Bob...it's not like they don't know you there ;) BTW, my bow came from Scott, and has a beavertail grip. Can't remember if he added it after the fact, or had Jerry do it when it was built, but it is sweet.

You did a great job, then...looks like it grew there. My wedding ring leaves a mark on every leather-gripped bow I've owned, except this one...tough stuff.

I'm ordering either the ghost or super ghost when they start making them again.

Guys...Thanks for all the ideas and comments. Problem mostly if not totally solved. Here is an update. 1. I did the obvious as suggested and called Bob. He said adjusting the tiller would take at least 4 #'s off my bow. Their split tiller is 1/8-1/4" and I happened to get the higher. Bought this from in-stock and last SG Jerry made. Per Bob, there may never be another. 2. I cut and added a dark felt arrow rest from furniture pad which is 3/16" and it made little or no diference. Probably helped some. Good suggestion. 3. I added 1/4" to the BH now at 7 1/2' max according to GN's specs. Bow did not like it any higher. 4. I am shooting 510 gr arrow which is 25+ grns less than I usually shoot but I have a broadhead I want to use this year that's 145 grns. 5. Played with the nock point and raised it a tad higher until the bow said nope. 6. Finally...THE LIKELY SOLUTION. I cut and aded the same piece of felt furniture pad 1" long on each string groove. immediately made the bow acceptably quiet. 7. I will now add new string silencers and I have a 12 strand coming from Allen Shafer which will likely finalize the work, but may also require one arrow spine size up??
