"Vintage" for me is an object of good quality with a long lasting value from the past. It implies other things than just a number of years.

Half your age ;-)

It's not number of years specifically, but is 'of a particular age'. It can be vintage 2000, or vintage 1940, etc.

Definition of vintage 1 of wine : of, relating to, or produced in a particular vintage

2 : of old, recognized, and enduring interest, importance, or quality : classic

3 a : dating from the past : old

b : outmoded, old-fashioned

4 : of the best and most characteristic —used with a proper noun

1. Of or relating to a vintage. 2. Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic. 3. Old or outmoded.

My wife and I just had this discussion when going to a "vintage" market and how that was different than "antique". The online technical definitions are: antique = over 100 years and vintage = over 50 but less than 100.

I believe they use the term incorrectly, like "instinctive". Vintage is a period in time like a certain vintage of wine but it can also mean something recognized as older or having some age. I believe the term is popularly used to mean something with some age but not classified as antique. I bought my "vintage" Bear Super Kodiak which is about '71 or '72.

Vintage to me is something before my time. Like I was in High school in the 70's. So that can't be old enough to be vintage. Right? So I view bows made from 1969 and older to be vintage. Guess it all depends on how old you are. On what's vintage to you. Like this bow. This is vintage to me.

Usually about $100 more and twice as beat-up as an “old” one...

If you go by eBay it's any piece of junk someone finds in an old shed. Every post reads "vintage" something junk is junk!!! Not vintage!!
