Is it easy to do feather splicing with full length feathers or can you use precut feathers ? This is something I want to accomplish. Any and all help and thoughts would be great.

You can use precuts. You will be wasting part of the feather. You have to replace the part you took out with the same part of the other feather. With full feathers you chop or burn after the spliceing. >>>----> Ken

The thing about precuts is if you’ll notice some feathers, even in the same package have dif heights. If you splice these you’ll have a feather sporting a notch or need to trim them. I just carefully match feathers before I start.

You can only butt splice if you use precut feathers. Membrane splice pretty much requires full length feathers.

I use 5" pre-cut to make 4" shield cut with a chopper

Pre cuts are easier I feel if your going to butt splice them. If full then you have to chop them.

Some master the membrane way but I never could it takes me to much time.

These were done from pre-cut 5" Parabolic into 4" Shields.

How do you hold the two pieces together to chop them?
