Anybody here know about the history of Nirk Archery & it's affiliation with Martin Archery? For as long as I can remember, I've heard of Nirk Nocks. I've also seen some Nirk longbows and recurves that appear to have been made by Martin/Howatt. That's all I know about the Nirk brand.

I know for a fact that Nirk sold the 52" Martin Rebel under the Nirk name.
Years ago, I had a Saxon American Traditional (which may have been made by Randy Dehnel for them) which was sold as a Nirk model with the Nirk name on the bow.
Not sure whether or not they made any other Martin recurves other than the Rebel and sold them under the Nirk name

I think Howatt also made their takedown for them under the name Nomad. Randy Dehnel did make bows for Larry Nirk.

After Larry died, Gail bought Nirk and tried to keep the name going for a while. He admired Mr. Nirk. Randy did not make any bows for Martin's I'm aware of.

My favorite stumpin’ arrah for many years was a Nirk-branded flu-flu... 6-fletched cedar, and I cut the fletchings down to 1” high with a scissors. Fast as any other arrow for about 20 paces, then ran right outta gas.
With a glue-on Judo, that arrow survived so many hard-target hits it was something of a miracle, but I think taking all of that steam off right before it hit must’ve been a key factor...
So I’ll never forget that name...

I have a Nirk Hawk longbow hanging around here somewhere, that’s the extent of what I know about them.

I had a Nirk Frontiersman longbow. It was basically a Martin Vision longbow with a different riser shape. It was a great longbow.

In the 80's Randy did make some bows for Larry, way before Gail bought Nirk. In fact I believe at one time Randy worked for Larry before venturing out on his own.

Nirk nocks were made in Athol Idaho in the late 90's and My wife and I visited the place when we were in the process of trying to buy Stotler Archery from Jerry Dishon when he had it for sale at the time. It seems that Nirk was for sale also and they supplied Rose City with products and we were considering buying both business's and combining them. Unfortunately the sales did not materialize.

There was a connection between Randy and Nirk, just not between Randy and Martins. Randy was using some of the Nirk facility when Gail bought the business.

Had a 50's style recurve from Nirk about 25-30 years ago. What a brutal bow to shoot that one was. Red elm under clear glass and was listed as 64#@28" but on a scale it was 71#@28". Just a beast.Had Nirk arrows, and maybe a glove I think also.

I don’t have a Nirk bow but I do have 3 matching arrows with Hill broadheads on them. Maybe I’ll “walk” into one someday! Lance

My dad would not use any nock on his arrows other than Nirk. If I made him up arrows and used anything else, he would change them out.

That's pretty much IS a Saxon American Traditional, made by Randy Dehnel, Mpdh. 62" AMO, Red Elm limbs, just like the ones Randy made before he passed. God and Christ Bless

I have a Nirk Woodsman, very nice bow, much like the Damon Howett Hunter. It is a shooter. Not many of the Nirk bows around. Thought about selling mine, however if no one knows anything about them who would want to buy one. Clay

How about a photo? I'd think it would be kinda scarce. A re-branded Martin Hunter?

Oh it is different than the Damon Howett Hunter, but similar. I have both and they shoot similar also. The Nirk is a different bow of course, however a very nice bow. The one I have is in excellent condition. I'm always looking for more information about the Nirk bow. Anyway here are a few pics.

I have an old Bamboo backed Hickory (I think hickory) that has the name Nirk Hawk in it. Don’t know if this is same company or not.

That Nirk Woodsman was made by Amarican Archery. It is a Shark in cognito. Very distinctive risers and writing and all of the A.A. models that were sent to Talo and Nirk have the same model# designations as their corresponding AA model. The only thing AA did was change the label on the limb for Nirk. Judging by the tip overlay and riser it was made post 71.

Good info. I don't know much about American Archery, but must have been some quality bow coming out at that time. Nice riser I would say. Thanks for the info. Clay
