Not sure how to get this guy. This area has a spring so maybe he’ll come to water before dark. Season opens sept 1st
There are other nice bucks showing up just before dark. Like I said, the area doesn’t look like much...

Ok lets see you shoot him now. You want to see all the good ones I had on camera I didn't see again to shoot or only saw a couple times with no shot. LOL
Nice looking deer hope you do get a crack at him though.
Just saying the percentage of deer shot off trail cameras has not been that great for me so I see it as it shows the time they were there not the time they will be back especially in shooting light.

I agree. I’ve not killed a deer that I’ve seen on trail cam despite getting a lot of photos.
Just nice to think of what’s possible...

The first few days of an early season is one of the best times to kill a buck like that. Plan your strategy and execute quickly.

I would take a shot at him any day, 7 days a week. By the way, he doesn't need a couple of years to be nice, he is very nice right now.

There’s a spring right near the photo. I’m going to slip in a put my stand up Saturday and be there the first evening to see if he shows.
I can approach undetected.

I hate it when a monster is in the neighborhood, people from far and near come to push it around. The trouble is here that things get crowded and busy and put the rest of herd on a stress schedule. I got a look at last years big boy in full velvet yesterday. I hope he keeps tight, last year poachers were cruising the gravels after dark trying for him.

Does the neighborhood know about him? I'd put a gamecam there that texts you pictures so you can stay out until it's time to hunt. Its great to know he's there.

No Nobody know
You can’t see the deer from the road and it hardly looks promising
What kind of camera to send me texts?
Thinking of trying to slip in and hang a stand Saturday. Bucks cruising the edges right at sunset. Early early in the morning but no access then.

We used to run loose thread across trails to try to pattern them. One large buck with an odd rack near town was in my buddies switch grass one day. 2nd week in October. We saw him two days later 7 miles to the east when heading out for an afternoon hunt. The next week my farmer friend's son put a stalk on him 4 miles northwest of his farm. Those big boys do get around.

Beans and corn everywhere. The spring created a small waterway that runs between the ag fields. I assume that is his sanctuary because it’s pretty isolated. There is a year round water source with the spring, lots of cover in tall grasses. No acorns.

Not sure but it definitely attracts the deer. No soft mass crops ( I had to look that up). It’s in a low spot so it’s out of sight. Should’ve been in there this winter getting things ready.

Well, it may not look good now, but at least you know where he'll be this time next August :-)
I agree with 4nolz. You know where he is now - don't pressure him and you might have a decent chance at him early before he gets into pre-rut and rut mode.

The older a deer gets, the better they get at avoiding danger and vice versa. The reason he’s there is exactly what you said, it doesn’t look good to you, so it looks good to him.

Not this close to the season Maybe not at all. This is honestly the first time I’ve dared to look at such a spot based on what we consider prime. But this has it all. Cover, food, water.

I've had lots of big ones harvested that I had pictures of on my camera. All by my neighbors.lol. They all had pictures of them to. Those big guys do make the rounds. There's so many trail cameras out now it's probably on more cameras than yours. Not saying you might not be the lucky one. Sure hope you are. A lot of those big ones get shoot in the early youth hunt around here. Almost a shame in a way because when you start out getting one of those it's pretty hard to top it. Or even repeat it.
