Aloha all, I am currently visiting State College, PA and will be visiting occasionally over the next few years as my lady is starting a PhD program at Penn State. I am wondering if there are any target/3D ranges or opportunities for roving/stumping in the area. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

For stumpin you will need a Pa. hunting license. You can buy a 7 day small game license for around $35.00 I think and that should work for you. Any State Game Lands or State Forest is open to stumping as long as you don't do it in a way that would harm people, or other living flora and fauna. Don't know about 3D in the area.

I'll be headed back home to Hawaii soon so unfortunately will not be around for the Shade Mountain shoot. Was hoping to get to ETAR this year but couldn't fit it in to our schedule. Maybe next year. Didn't know about shade mountain so thanks for the tip, maybe I can fit that in another year, too!

Thanks, George, for the info about state game lands. I'm going to browse the state hunting regulations for details so I'm clear on what's allowed. I wasn't sure if there were any seasons open this time of year. We're blessed in Hawaii to be able to hunt any time of the year in some areas but I know other states have seasons later in the Fall.

Craig, what's in Forksville?

For 3D shoots, check out the North Central 3D schedule on Blue Rock Sportsmen Facebook page. In the circuit, you have Clarence near Snow Shoe, Black Eagle Bowmen near Lamar just off Rt. 80 and Blue Rock off Rt. 322 near Reedsville. All great shoots with great people running them. Beav

Matthew, it's the 3rd weekend of September at a beautiful little spot in northern Pa....Sullivan County. Been going on since 1957 and is all-inclusive for archery bows...not just a traditional shoot. I've been going since the early 1970's and wouldn't miss it, if for nothing else but the beautiful surrounding. There's a pretty big State Game Lands on top of the mountain toward Phillipsburg on 322. Look at rules for State Game Lands and you will find it clearly stated.

Thank you all for the great information. I wasn't able to get any shooting in on this trip but I'll be back next summer with more time to play and will use this information to guide my planning. Aloha all

For stumpshooting, it is a short trip to Scotia Range, in an area called.the Barrens. Killed more than a few deer there during my PSU days.
