Just wondering if there is an advantage to having the broadhead ferrule diameter larger than the shaft. Looking at VPA and Kustom King trailmakers it appears that the ferrule diameter may be a little larger than the shaft Wonder if it reduces drag enough to make a difference. I know sharpness and shot placement are critical

Just curious

I am a huge fan of having the ferrule diameter larger than the shaft. When the woodsman came out with the elites, ( the solid one piece screw-in- 3-blade broadhead) I complained till I was blue in the face. I believe that the end of your arrow should not be larger than the end of your broadhead. It would have to affect penetration somewhat, and definitely creates a failure situation for the end of the shaft. As I stated in other posts, this is what I really like about the Grizzly Instinct 3-blades. The end of my carbon shaft is actually hidden inside of the broadhead. Looks like a great set up to me.

I am curious also. I jus started using 5/16th dia boo shafts with ribteks, ace, and hunter heads....Seems there should be less shaft pinch.

If the blades open up a hole like they're supposed to then I submit that the ferrule diameter is irrelevant.

Fred Bear seemed to think there was some shaft pinch that impeded penetration. Flesh is flexible / pliable. Hence the bleeder blades on the razorhead.

I know it makes a difference on the blue barrel LOL!

Less drag on the shaft if the initial hole is a tad bigger.

What Pdiddly said. Plenty of experience using 23/64 wood shafts with not just 11/32 ferrule broadheads but the smaller diamiter 5/16 on whitetails. I experimented quite a bit back in the day. The broadhead opens a pathway eh!?

There is no question that a smaller object passing through a larger hole will create less friction.

Is it worth worrying about ? Well, only you can decide that.
