Have any of you ever hunted the Mcalester Oklahoma ammunition plant deer hunt. I drew out the 2nd week of november for hominy. Pretty much going to be going in blind unless anyone ok n here can give me some pointers.

You drew a coveted tag. Excellent time to hunt with the rut going on. Been too long since I hunted there. Don’t have any fresh intel. There are others that will be along soon. If you will go to bowsite and click on the Oklahoma forum and ask there, you will get more information than you can handle. Trust me on that!

I’ve hunted Hominy the past two years, but both times it was the second week of October. I can point out a couple areas I saw lots of sign. I’ll be there in November as well but drew Deer Creek.

Guy's really congragate on hot spots there. Don't rule out scouting the roads for fresh crossings even big hay Meadows away from the crowds. Remember those guys working there have 300 best friends for six weeks. You're lucky!

I hunted hominy a couple times, but it’s been several years. Our group all saw nice deer, I have killed a p&y 14 pt there but it was in deer creek during the same hunt period as yours. Just study maps for the usual stuff. When it comes time to pick your spot you will need to have a pretty good idea of where you want to hunt, along with some alternatives. I’m not sure if it’s changed or not, but you had to park in one spot for the day then could walk wherever you wanted but you only got like a 1/2 day of boots on the ground scouting. So study your maps well.

Like tlhbow said think out of the box some, patches of timber in a field might go overlooked are another thing to check. Also think rut.. I killed mine as he was skirting a woodlot , I feel he was checking the fields visually and scent checking the edge cover

I've hunted Hominy twice but it was so long ago that I forgot where I hunted. But, I do remember I hunted a strip of woods between two bunker rows. Those rows are about 300 yards apart. I had a massive 8 pt within 10 yds facing me head on. But, he spotted me in the tree and that was that. Don't be afraid to hunt off the ground. Those giant cedar trees can be made into a good ground blind. Just cut a window in them, pile the limbs in front and sit with your back to the tree trunk.

RedTape, how in the heck did you get drawn 3 years in a row?

Got drawn the first year and got a doe, which gave me a quality pass to go back last year. Just pure luck I got drawn again this year!

Texhoma the 3-D shoot this weekend was started years ago by the Oklahoma longbowmem for hunters drawn in. Unfortunately they had to stop the tour busses that took you in to the hunting areas after 911. It's a great shoot and plenty of vendors as well. It will be lots of hunters there that's looking for how it works also and plenty of time visiting about the area. It's best to camp on site for sure because there is no being late in the morning. They drive through camp and will wake everyone up for sure. You will be glad to make this trip.

Wish I could make it to the shoot this weekend. Unfortunately I have to work. Got to keep the lights on.

It’s a great hunt but just got to be to structured for me. I fully understand why it’s that way and really appreciate the fact we can even hunt there at all, let alone the fact it’s a trad only hunt.

I shot a buck in Hominy a few years ago. Not one of the Most Wanted list but a nice buck. I would hunt the same area if I was going back. I was along the creek just east of Road A but north of Road 7 in some red oaks. I was close to a bunker. Any where along that creek would be a place to start looking. Let me know if you need the hunt map. I can email it.

I've hunted there several times. You can drive yourself crazy trying to figure out where to go. The last few times I hunted I finally came up with the best plan for picking an area and here it is. I let everyone else pick they're spot, once they are all done I walk up to the map and I find the furthest away spot from everybody else and hunt there. It doesn't matter where you are I promise there are deer in the area. You only get about 4-5 hours to scout and hang stands. Deer there are not like normal deer. They are so use to human activity. Walk down the road until you find a good trail and follow the trail. There's really no need to even go over 100 yrds of the road. Im not pulling your leg either. I know way to many people who have killed nice bucks doing the same thing.good luck to you and I hope you get a big old buck.
