Not much scouting needed where I hunt, but I did buy 4 new ladder stands Monday, and today I started refurbishing my natural ground blind that's in a real hot spot. 2 of the ladder stands will be put up later at my brothers place. With everything I've seen so far, I think my brother and I are in for another great hunting season. BTW, the ladder stands are Sniper Avenger stands model STLS10, cheap at $60 each.

I started scouting for elk back in May, on a trip to see my son graduate from college in Colorado. ;)

Since I started elk hunting, it's an all-year endeavor. Makes whitetails seem like preschool actually.

I’ve peeked just a bit but nothing serious. It was a new spot and I just wanted to see how a spot rolled. Used to start July 4. I was proud of that fact as a kid. Meant I spent months preparing right? Nothing imo is further from the truth. Nothing you can learn now except a terrain feature could help you where I live come fall. I prefer to “plan my hunt season” by looking for things that will happen. In August I’ll start looking up into trees and checking the white oaks for nuts. Be checking the black oaks too for later in the season. Cornfields here stink until they’re cut so I’ll be checking for where the crops are put, same for pumpkins, apples, etc. I may deer watch this time of year and more than likely log possible areas come the right time of fall but actively scouting the way most guys do it, no but to each his own

I hunt out my back door. I never quit scouting.

going to camp next week, carrying new ladder stand, painting now, just moved other ladder 6 weeks ago, new mineral block, new batteries in cameras, when you hunt south Arkansas pine woods you are at the owners mercy they may start cutting first day of season, never ending battle, lost stand areas, lose roads, then bed it and plant new trees been down there 24 years, gun hunted first year to bow hunt my lease dr

Like DarrinG said, it never stops really. I hunt public land, continue to walk it during turkey season, really learning what I can about the deer their. Continues at every opportunity all summer. Cameras or stands would most likely be stolen. Feet on the ground, and eyes watching for sign.

You can't start something you haven't ended!

After over half a century of hunting I can honestly say that if I'm awake, then I'm "hunting". I may not have a weapon in my hand, but as far as my eyes/ears/nose/intuition are concerned I'm hunting. It's not something that I can turn off!

I guess it comes with having canine teeth.

Not really necessary, the deer are always there, in the same places each year and always lots of them. Saw two bucks, three does and a tiny fawn just today driving around. An abundance of deer here, always.

Yeah I spent last Sunday scouting a section of public land that is a little more secluded than the previous sections I have hunted. I bumped a few deer and found really great sign.

I left two trail cams up there and I will be back in a week or two to scout again and potentially move those cams. I know there are a lot of bear up there, I see sign most every time I go up there so a few bear pics would be icing on the cake.

I don't scout either. I already have my stands up at the best spots.

Haven't stopped scouting in over 30+ years..!

We call it 'stumpin around here. I hunt from the ground so the stumpin shows me where not to hunt as well as where to. It's a year-round thing.

My boys put cameras out a month ago and had a 1000 good pictures to look at.

I don't scout, I just go hunting when life allows it. Killing deer has fallen way down on my to-do list. I just like the peace now.

I hunt the same woods so pretty familiar with it-I'll go check the persimmon crop soon.Working on the hogs under the feeder right now.

Walked a new 80 that we can hunt this fall. Hot (95 and humid) ticks are real thick too! LOL

I started the end of January after the late archery season ended.

From: LBshooter

Nope, way to thick and buggy. Plus, summer patterns differ from fall patterns. My area I hunt year after year and it's basically the same, plus I prefer to scout during the season. I'll still hunt areas and see what's going on.

I snuck into a new area I first scouted via Google Earth, then located a nasty thick area and put boots on the ground last weekend. Found a likely good bedding area and found a good area on the outskirts of it where I could sneak in on the downwind side and get in a tree without bumping deer, hopefully. Hung a camera in this spot and checked it today. Several bears passed by as well as several nice, still-growing bucks.

I have been looking for the monster 12 that I did not quite get a shot at last year. So far no sign of him.

I haven't quit scouting for years, like others already mentioned.

Scout year-round, but take a hiatus during the 40 day lifespan of our local deer flies. They are extra BAD this year!

I never stop scouting.

Scouted an area this afternoon after church that I hadn't been to in a long time. Quite the hike in there. Keeping my eyes on everything around, looking for mushrooms and other wild edibles while also keeping an eye on deer sign.

Was walking through a fairly thick area and about 15 yards in front of me was a big oak and I caught movement on the tree, something moving down the tree, on the backside. Suddenly a bear cub jumps out of the tree and hits the ground with a thud, looks at me for a second and runs down the ridge. So thick I couldn't see further than about 20 yards in any direction on the ground. Talk about pucker-factor not knowing where mama was, or how close she could be in that thick stuff! I yelled "Hey bear....hey bear..." as I quickly backed out of that area.

I also found a old stump with a bunch of Chicken of the Woods mushrooms growing. Harvested about half of it, about 5 pounds worth, for a couple meals the next few days, and left the other half. Yum!!! Gonna eat good tonight!! Deer sign was not great in that area, a few tracks here and there but nothing noted worth a return trip for, not early season anyhow.
