I've had nocks break but this arrow broke in two when I was pulling it out of my 3D target. That's a first for me, flew perfect when I shot it.

Never happened to me either. Good thing it did not break like that upon release.

Maybe it was hit by another arrow at some time?

I only shoot one arrow at a time, the arrow looks perfect except where it broke. I'm very lucky it didn't break while I was drawing back.

Be worth checking with a glass to see if there's existing damage.

Here is a picture of the break. Like I said it was something I've never seen. The arrow broke across the grain.

Go buy a lottery ticket, that could have left a mark had it snapped upon release.

Will and others, I had a bad experience with shooting only one practice arrow with my compound years ago that cost me a bear. To make a long story short, I would shoot my one arrow for practice and had the bow dialed in. 2nd night bear hunting my bear came in at 15 yrds. I pull, set the pin behind the shoulder and released. The arrow hit 20" or so right. I was sick, pissed and befuddled on what happened. I got home and shot the practice arrow, dead nuts. I know the release and shot were good? So, I pulled one of my hunting arrows out and shot, 20" right? Another one, 20" right. So I inspect my practice arrow and find it was bent mid way down the feather. Just a little advice to shoot all your arrows before hunting.

Looks like it might not have gone in straight and broke on impact.

I call that an archery “what happened”. I have arrows survive direct hits on rebar, rocks, cement, etc. but break hitting the side of the bale. There was a discussion not to long ago about how long arrows last. There were many different opinions as well as experiences. I don’t believe there’s a cut and dry answer to your experience or mine. One thing I have learned, flex carbons and woods every once in awhile.

Whoa. Good thing it didn’t get shoved into your forearm.

That's crazy. The only time I have seen arrows break (2) of them at one shoot. Seven or eight of us in a group shooting a 40 target range mabe a couple rounds but. It was a continuous downpour and arrows must of soaked up moisture what we thought. The breaks were about 1/3 from the nock.
