Can anyone tell me if the serial number of a newer Bear 59er designates the year of manufacture. Serial number is 10-038. Does that mean it was built in 2010. Thanks - jwingman

No they weren't making them in 2010, were they?

Doesn't seem like it.

The earliest review of the new bows I can find is from 2013. Still wondering when they actually started making them. Any additional help would be appreciated. - jwingman

The 38th made in 2010.

There should be numbers above that to designate he year. Your bow was the 38th bow made in October of the year that will be listed above that line.

There should be a BA- above that number. The 2013 to 2015 ones had a BA-serial number prefix. After the BA- there should be a number like 013, 014, etc., or 13, 14, etc. that will be the year. As Phil said the 10 means October and the 038 means the 38th one made that month.

Interesting. My bow is BA13-05-214. I ordered it in maybe May but didn't get it until October or November. This was after several inquiries to Bear about where it was. If I'm reading it correctly, it was built in May and was the 214th bow. Mine is a 60lb. bow and I just assumed they were having trouble hitting the weight. Now I will forever wonder if they assigned serial numbers prior to tillering and finishing the bow.

According to my Bear Catalogs the 1959 Bear Kodiak reproduction first showed up in the 2013 Bear Catalog.

They were introduced in 2012 but after the catalog for that year was printed. Here is what the lettering should look like.

My bow was the 77th bow made in December 2012.

Thanks for the information Phil.

Thank you all for the information. My bow has a BA-12 above the serial number so it is a 2012 year bow. That answers my question. I appreciate the education from those that offered their time and effort to get me an answer. I was looking at the serial number so intently, I didn't pay much attention to what was above it. Thanks - jwingman

Mine is just like Phil's except it says BA-13, made in 2013.

Thanks. Was looking for one of the 30lb'ers from the early days of the new 59'ers and lucked into this one. One of our LW'ers sold it to me.
