Hello to all,

I want to make a recurve bow with laminated limbs but have no experience in the materials. I have read about glass vs carbon lamination, but noone mentioned kevlar. Could it be used for bow belly? It has good streching strenght and very low density. Any thought why this would not work in short or maybe in long run?

Also if someone could redirect me or give me an specific example for a carbon/glass layer width for a laminated bow.

Now I have no idea how much of the material is used and it would be great to start from logical refrence. It would be best if someone could give an example of glass/wood/glass thicknes they used and what weight did they got.

Thank you, Simas

I would imagine that you'd want low stretch rather than high stretch, but I'm not an engineer.

Kevlar isn't use by any bowyers I know of, so that should tell you something. I know it had a propensity to break...unannounced when made into bow string fibers. I agree with Dkincaid...make a few with fiberglass first.
