I picked up a couple of bows a good while back and I'd like to know a little more about them if anyone has any info I greatly appreciate it. One is a kid's bow with no markings and the other is marked. Thanks Hip

Thanks Bob, I was just curious and wondered what the "WSNL" stood for.

From an earlier thread a posting by George Stout

"The hole in the bow tip was a standard issue with most of those bows....it was to tie the string in place when unstrung. That one was made by Outdoor Sports Co., or WSNL, not Woodcraft Equipment Company. The Outdoor Sports models and the WSNL had the glass laminations in the riser and fiberglass backing. The old lemonwood bows, such as that one, were made by many companies. Most used decals that tended to wear away over the decades. This model is from the mid 50's when unidirectional fiberglass was available. The York models have the length and poundage pressed into the wood...WSNL models, had that information pressed into the glass on the back of the bow. Because it was your grandpaps, you have a special treasure there. Get some arrow spined about five to ten pounds lighter than the pull at your draw...you will need the paradox. They are great shooters and will last a long time if taken care of. Do not let it strung when you aren't shooting it....it's not good for any selfbow or backed wood bow. Most of those bows like a brace height of about 6 1/8 to 6 1/2 inches. Beautiful bow my friend with some inherent magic."

WSNL model bows were made by Outdoor Sports Mfg. Co., Forestville, CT

According to earlier posts WSNL can mean:

- Weight, serial number, length

- Wicked Staturday Night Live

- Will Season No Longer ... wood moisture will remain the same

Pick one.

It was typical of many of those bow manufacturers to impress the length and poundage into the belly of the bow. York impressed theirs into the back.

Is that backed with Fortisan? Looks like it to me.

I'm not sure, but it does not look like glass to me. It almost seems a hard plastic like material, close inspection with a loop shows no pattern or weave that I can detect. The arrow rest is a hard felt material. I strung it last night but haven't drawn it or shot it yet.

The childs bow has what appears to be the same backing.
