Considering bear hunting in MI … does anyone know or would recommend a bear guide in MI

As Kevin wrote. Getting a bear license may take time depending on what unit you want to hunt in. Carney unit is a bit easier than other units. It took 3 of us 8 years to draw first season Amasa. It was worth the wait as we went 3 for 3 last fall. No info on guides for you as we did everything ourselves.

Yep with 12 points still didn't draw Baldwin.

The UP? Below the bridge?

It normally takes for points (years) for the Carney 1st hunt. That's where I hunt. As far as Outfitters, I have used Dan with Wild Spirit Outfitters before. He runs baits all over the Upper Peninsula and does a good job. I stayed at my deer camp and simply drove to the hunting sites each day. If I bear hunt next year, I will be doing it myself. Dan was good though and reasonably priced, he has a great success rate.

Anybody remember the name of the guy who ran a bear hunting outfit in Seney?

He was murdered sometime around 1990 or so. I hunted with him when you could buy a bear tag OTC.

There's always the Bear Ranch for those not in the know about bear hunting in MI. Give them a call and let them know what size bear you'd like.

And bring a box of fruit loops, they love 'em. Just drove past their gate two weeks ago.

Baldwin sure sounds hard to draw from, sounds like trying to get a moose tag from Maine.

Pearl is correct. I brought 1000 pounds of fruit loops to use for bait and the bear tore the baits up. If you decide to run your own baits I can let you know the business name to buy them.

My wife drew with 14points in Baldwin this year. Fortunately we have many friends who have nuisance bears who would love for her to help them out.

Silly me, I'm sitting on 14 points.....reminded everybody about the deadline to apply and missed it myself. Good luck to those successful applicants this fall.

Herbie where in the Baldwin unit you going to be hunting?
