Maybe should grind them down?

Yes.

Tips need to go on a diet I think...:-)

I like pin nocks but the fella I'm making this for doesn't care for them.

Those are nice looking nocks.

I like the looks of limb tip nocks that fade/feather down into he limbs. Do not like the looks of a glob on the end of a limb, like a glob of bubble gum.

My first thought was "hips".

Probably should be reduced a bit. Notches look rather deep to me, on the side and the back.

Work them down more :-) looking good. JF

Yes, take them down some

Take a piece of 80 or 100 grit sand paper about an inch wide and start sanding on the overlays like you were shining a shoe.

By the time you get the cornners rounded over and get the lines to blend into the limbs, they are going to look much differenr,

The belly side tip ends will be a problem every time they bump something. Rounding the edges will improve the looks and durability.

From: Longcruise

Thanks for the suggestions. Didn't mean to present them as a finished tip. They have a way to go.

I'll put up another picture when they are done.

Is the overlay purely cosmetic it looks like you filed through it cutting the nocks. Hard to tell on my phone

Find a photo of a Dwyer bow.

I also agree with monkeyball.

I have learned from experience never to answer any questions beginning with "Does this look fat", and "Do my tips look fat?" def falls in that area. ;^)

Fat HUMmmm You don't need the weight there. I would take them down to just about the level of the string, round or point the tip, then round all edges and corners. They are going to look just fine when you finish them.>>>-----> Ken

They are pretty far from filed through. Plenty of extra to work with.

Took some wood off and they look a bit slimmer now.

You could have just put a dress on them!!!

LOL. I never answered those questions in the affirmative. Jawge

Yes, I too think they look much better! Look forward to the finished product.

Very close to completion. Almost ready for finish.

The before and after represents a lot more work than most people think. You can spend just as much time shaping, filing and sanding the tips as you can an entire riser. Shortcuts here can make the whole bow look 'cheap'. Looking good Longcruise. Waiting to see pics of the entire bow when you are finished!

Yes sir ! Looks like you got it going your way. Please post pick of finished bow when your done.

Hey Mike, You want to borrow my chainsaw?

Looking good in the last photo, I am working with bone laminated between a very hard wood for mine, I think I need a side grinder sometimes ...Ha!Ha!

Yes please let us see the finished product.

I'm not sure which bowyer Craig was talking about above but Fred Anderson makes some of the finest tips I've ever seen on longbows. And he has some interesting thoughts about how they should be made. Given Fred's vast experience, any bowyer would do well to look at examples of his work then talk with him to understand his rationale if only to hear a different perspective.
