I honestly have never paid much attention to the percent of FOC and don't plan on paying much attention to it in the future. I like to spine my arrows for my bow with a 150 grain broadhead or 125 grain target tip.

But when you do figure % of FOC how do you figure it. I am thinking if it is 10% on a 29" arrow then my balance point should be about 2.9" in front of center, or possibly 1/2 of that? How is the proper way to figure that?

Arrow length divided in half gives you center. Then find the balance pt. And measure it from center. Distance from center divided by arrow length, gives you the foc as a percentage. An easy example would be 3 in on a 30 in arrow. This would be 10%

50% is at 14.5". so being 10% FOC would put the balance point at 2.9" forward of center just as you stated.

I try to keep my FOC just in front of center in flight shooting.

What I picked up from Dan Perry was the same as badger noted. The arrow just about even.

I made 4 barrel tapered arrows a few years back after i had read a big article on the subject.I think it was about turkish flight shooting.Followed instructions on the arrow builds.Have no idea what bow to shoot them out of. I do not want to put on an arrow through my hand. They are cedar,2 of them are 22 inches long,210 grains, bone tips, sinew wrapped nocks, tiny feathers 2 inches long one forth inches high. The other 2 are 24 inches long and are 220 grs.I have a number of selfbows i could shoot them out of,most range from 40 to 50 lbs. What bow could i safely shoot these arrows out of? Foc is center. I want to try them out ,but apprehensive.Badger you are a flight shooter need some help.
