I wanted to promote something besides my show and name this evening. I wanted to promote this website.

If you are new, welcome. I have been active here since Rev Stacy Groscup passed away in 2005. I came in at that time to pay tribute to my late friend. After posting here I found I liked it. It’s unique. It’s like an electronic campfire you can sit around 24/7 from anywhere in the world.

Also here you will find people that will help you. People that will explain, discuss and yes, even debate from time to time. I’ve made friends here that have become very close friends. Thanks to LW I’ve met great folks from all over the US and all walks of life. They will share your success, offer suggestions when you need it and even pray for you. It’s that kind of place. Good people. Even those I sometimes I have debated or discussed things with often will become friends. It’s a very cool place to be.

What’s your Leatherwall story?!?

O.L. Adcock first told me about this place back in 1998 or so. First few times I looked in, all I could see were pi$$ing matches between guys, arguing about wood vs. aluminum arrows and 3-under vs. split, aiming vs. instinctive, etc.

I distinctly remember telling O.L. that I probably wouldn't join as I didn't have time for that nonsense. ha, ha.

Well, here I am 20 years later (can it really be 20 years!?!) and still participating.

The members here have been my friends, my allies, and my "freinemeys" and although I've taken some long breaks, I've always come back.

Why? Because I'll never forget the support I received here when I was shooting for a spot on the US Archery Team back in 2004. It was overwhelming and much appreciated.

There are a lot of really good folks here and a few stinkers that keep the place interesting, to say the least.

Good thread Frank.

I found this site in 98-99 by accident. We just got our first computer and my wife was showing me how to use it.

I think most if not all are good folks it's just somethings everyone has a bad day. But watch out too many bad days and we might not be seeing you :-).

This is a great site, Frank. I started around 97ish. I, too, have made life long friends here and you are one of them. Thank you for your friendship. Jawge

I first came here 20'ish years ago as well, don't really remember.

I've learned a lot from many folks here. David Sosa and I used to have some back and forth about different things, publicly, and by PM. Never contentious though, and I learned from him.

Limbwalker, Gary Sentman, Jawge, Fred ANderson, heck, lots of people.

Made some life long friends as well. There is a lot of knowledge here, and as long as you have an open mind, you pick up a lot of knowledge.

Been here since late 1998. Met and correspond with some good guys.

I've been here since '98 and learned a lot back in the day when it was a regular hangout of great bowyers during the selfbow resurgence. It could get bit contentious at times, but it was AWESOME!

I started here before the Stickbow and Leatherwall were split off from the main Bowsite forums. It was sometime around 1996 or 1997 but I am not absolutely certain. Way back then I took on the handle DancesWithSquirrels. I have participated on and off over all these years. My times away were due to health issues. I just could not enjoy my participation when circumstances did not allow me to continue my shooting and hunting with the bow. Eventually my handle was taken by others so when I returned on a more regular basis I just decided to use my name going forward.

I have been fortunate to be able to have met a number of the folks who have been regulars on the Leatherwall over the years. The 1999 GORH will always be a treasured memory for me. Shooting with some of you at ETAR/Denton Hill Leatherwall gatherings has also been very enjoyable.

Yes there have been plenty of debates over the years, some of which seem sort or silly looking back. And there have been times when I may have been strongly opinionated myself. But for the most part I believe they have been fairly civil. I have learned a lot here. I have met some great folks as a result of the Leatherwall. I am thankful for being able to participate in this e-campfire.

And gentlemen, I can promise you this, had he lived longer or had this technology in his time Fred Bear would have loved this site and social media in general. Although he was subtle, Fred was our greatest self promoter. But when he did, archery grew and it would trickle down to Bear archery growing.

Y’all are great. I always laughed back in the day when the anti-Frank faction posted on my threads. I always said it kept them up longer.

Thanks for all of you. It’s a great place. Home.

Frank

From time to time I research my name to see what pops up. In 2015 this web site popped up with one of my longbows I'd built in the 90's. It was an old post but I signed in been here ever since. I've really enjoyed it and the new friends I have made. Not to mention the info I've gleaned off of here. It helped me to get back out into the shop and build a few bows with the new materials that are available today

I had always loved Traditional Archery, but in 2007 I was training to go to Iraq and a friend suggested that I check it out. Needless to say I was hooked. It was a saving grace while I was deployed. It kept my mind sane during down time over there. After returning I was fortunate enough to be able and attend the Colorado Trad Bow Camp in 2010. 10 wonderful days bowhunting elk with Trad gear with many many wonderful gentlemen from this site. You could call it mental health therapy to reaclimate into society. I've been fortunate enough to remain friends with some of those guys and make new ones. Thanks for such a great site.

Hmmm. I think I registered in 2003 or 2004. I see that in my "favorite threads" list I flagged the dead cow thread in 2005, and I am pretty sure I was on a year or two prior to that when I switched from compound to trad. Although I seldom post, I look at the site nearly every day. I have learned much from the many experienced 'wallers - everything from arrow building to the best way to season cast iron cookware...many great game recipes as well.

The Wall gave me the opportunity to gift a couple of no- longer-used youth bows to someone who needed them, as well as a big box of Traditional Bowhunter magazines after I stopped subscribing (the recipient kindly sent me a bowstring in thanks). On the Wall, I have witnessed the outrageous generosity of members when another has been in need, and read the best wishes and prayers of support. I feel enriched from all of that.

And who can resist a good Frisky thread? Now that's entertainment!

I also registered around 2003 or 2004 after a friend at work told me about the forum. I had just gotten into archery and loved the idea of being able to get my questions answered by folks who knew what they were talking about. Over the years, I've made some friends, made some people smile, and, hopefully, helped some people out. This is one of the few websites that I try to visit every day just to see what's going on.
