Father's Day my son and me was grilling some steaks on my patio. He said look there are some ticks on the grill shelve. There were 6 very small ticks crawling around. I checked him out and there were 6 ticks crawling on his back. We looked and there were around 100 crawling on the lawn chairs. Later I found one crawling on my chest. I know you fellas are careful when hunting but you better start checking out your kids and pets even if they're playing in your backyard.
I just read a report from a professor from Grove City College. She got 2000 ticks from the PGC from deer killed. They're a lot worse than we thought, they spread more diseases than Lyme disease. One female tick laid eggs in a jar. When she checked later there were 3000 thousand of those baby blood suckers crawling around.

I've never seen a tick in my 45 years, not around our home area that is. Our dog came to the house with a big one right on her nose. I got it out intact using olive oil and tweezers.

The hot weather this summer should knock them back at least until fall cooler weather. I have never heard of them that bad, crawling around on furniture or decks etc. We have them but they stick to the brush mainly. I woke up one morning after taking a shower and had two of them stuck to me. I got bit by one of them right in my radiation field on my collar bone. It turned into a red oval with a narrow whitish zone inside it a week later, so I got alarmed and went to the doc. I am taking no chances on it being Lyme, so now I am taking antibiotics for three weeks, one week left. They are little demons, don't take any chances, check yourself if you have been outside. Put your clothes in the washer and wash them asap.

I'll second what Clyde said. Spray your clothes with Permethrin and let dry over nite. It really works. I've had Lymes twice and am very careful around Ticks, and we have lots of them in Wisconsin. Joel

Must have been a batch of them hatch out right there.
Having spent some time in Lyme hell, it makes me think each and every time before going to the woods... 'is it really worth it?' I don't think it's possible for us Lymies to adequately convey to others the level and duration of unrelenting suffering that can come from a tick bite, and how important it is to safeguard yourselves.
There were nights I wondered if I'd be alive in the morning, and thought more than once that since the pain would stop? I'd be ok with it if I wasn't. It will change your life... if it doesn't kill ya... and no, I'm not being melodramatic.
I don't brush up against a weed, tree limb, mow grass, weedeat, even so much as kneel in my yard for 10 seconds, or any such thing without thinking there could be a tick there waiting to infect me with Bb bacteria and start that crap all over again.
Even as careful as I am, I've pulled three out of me so far this year.
My state of Pa is #1, with the highest number of Lyme cases in the country, and my county is the #1 worst county in Pa! I'm in the hot zone baby! Right where the action is. Woohoo!

Ticks are everywhere they will find you! They want you they are evil.
If you think that's bad just wait till you find them in your bed. I found 9 in my bed one year it was so bad. I said screw this I sprayed my bed. You ever here of that welp I did it! I think they came in off dog and somehow worked their way to fresh meat.LOL
Another time I was out in a salvage yard looking at a truck claim and the guy who went out there with me said stand still as he knocked off 3 ticks off my shoulder. I was freaked out. I had a white shirt on and they seem to like white. They also like dark colors they hide in my dogs spots.
Ticks.gov introduced by the gov as warfare against humanity. Is that fake news? Yea maybe but maybe not where did they come from then and how are all these diseases they bring introduced probably by Big Pharma to generate the cash cow wheel!!!!!!

I grew up in Pennsylvania and spent the majority of time in The woods and along the creek in the 70's and 80's. I never saw a single tick. I moved to Maryland in The mid 90''s and pulled a lot of them off me and became familiar with them real quick. I moved back to NY state in 2003 and have yet to see another one. Seems so bizzar how they have really became prevalent over the last 20+ years in THe northeast.

Bassman, Sawyers makes insecticide with Permethrin. It's in a yellow spray bottle. You can find it at most sporting goods stores and some dept or agriculture stores now.
Spray it on your outer layer of clothes and let it dry. It works for several weeks.
If it's on clothes up against your skin and gets rehydrated due to sweat or rain, it can be absorbed into your skin and make you sick.

With an infestation like that I would call an exterminator that was well up on ticks. Still you should use preventives and remain aware. The diseases they cause are no joke. Please Take Care. I much rather have snakes. They are not near as sneaky and are more visible. Given a chance they run away. Ticks seek and attack.>>>----> Ken

Ticks are carried by mice. Control the mice and you might get a handle on your tick problem. Thermacell makes tick tube repellents that you can place in your yard. It involves permethem, cotton balls and toilet paper tubes. The cotton balls are soaked in permethrem, let dry, stuff into the tubes, place around your yard near wood edges. The mice will take the cotton to make nests and the permethrem on the cotton takes care of the ticks. Check you tube.

A local woman went to a park, down by the river, with her two kids. They had ticks on them, one she found stuck to one of her kids. She went straight to the doctor with the clothes they were wearing. He made them take off their clothes and had the nurse do a tick check. They also checked their clothes. She paid $75 in co-pays for a tick check. One guy said, 'which nurse?' They said who it was, then he said, 'I'd pay $75 to check her for ticks.' Which prompted me to say, 'I am going into the tick checking business.' A cute 21 year old friend of mine that was there, asked 'How much?' I said, 'For you, 20 bucks.' She said, 'Make it 30 and we got a deal.'

I don't think I am as bad as Jeff with tic phobia but I am probably close.
They freak me out I was just thinking this morning about spraying my bed again.LOL
Yeah I very may well have gotten this GBS from mice myself that's now chronic CIPD.
I caught a mouse last night on a glue trap. I have so many mice around these can't be controlled living in the woods.
I need to move to a bubble. The nurse came in beginning of week to administer the globulin IVIG and touched a Cat on this property and said their was a tic on Cat. I said what did you touch Cat for leave all varmint alone. One day that Cat will get lined up just right again when no one is around and then bang and say lavey!

I generally do not get ticks, I have had them crawl on me but not usually attach. My wife is a different story and it has been a running joke how she gets them and not me for the last 25 years.
With that said, I was working in the yard a while back and a day or two later in the shower I found one attached at my waist. The weird thing was it was dead. I mean that seemed weird, it bites me and died. Crazy.
I don't take any medication to blame so maybe it is me. Maybe he got smashed, did not look like it. Maybe all those years with no ticks there is just something about my chemistry. I do not get it, oh and I am a healthy guy who gets regular physicals, blood tests. Nothing odd. Just lucky I assume.
Anyone else lucky like me that they don't get bothered? Oh, gnats, flys and sketters don't mind. They bite me plenty.
Anyhow, back on subject, I have seen a lot more ticks in NW IL as well. Bill

I just had an appointment with my lyme doctor yesterday. He has been treating me for 18 months, I just started feeling better about 3 months ago. It has been a long and tuff battle but I am determined to beat this deal. I owe Jeff Durnell more than I can ever repay for the info he provided me about lyme. I was so bad I had a hard time getting out of bed and my hands were swollen to a point where I could hardly hold a toothbrush. Without his help, I'm not sure I would be alive now. This disease is no joke, take it seriously and get some help. I have been told that now if you get bit by a tick, doctors will put you on the doxycycline. Go get it, don't wait to get worse.

John, it warms my heart to hear you're on the mend. I'm sorry, with so much going on here, I kind of forgot about you :^) I'm always in the process of helping others too. If you've had it for some considerable time, they've built fortresses(biofilm), and perhaps resistances to chemical antibiotics, and it takes considerable time and sometimes 'unconventional' effort to effectively battle and eliminate them. Be smart, diligent, patient, and steadfast in your fight and you WILL win.... win your life back. As always, if perhaps I can help or support you, just reach out.
You sir, made my weekend. So glad you're feeling better. I hope you are working now to epitomize your immune system.

Nowadays I go to the tractor supply and get a 10% permethrin fly spray. Last brand I got was Gordons, just look for 99% inactive ingredients. About 13 bucks for 32 oz.
The military uses 10% when they treat clothing, but it will definitely smell.
It only takes a .5 percent solution to kill ticks. You can mix that 10% solution down and treat a lot of outdoor specific clothes and all your gear for that matter. Tents, boots, packs sleeping bags, etc.
Mix 2.5 oz. in a gallon of water, then you can just soak shirts, shorts, socks, pants in it. wring out and hang to dry.
You can wash these clothes about four or five times and still have them be effective. Agitation in the wash is what hurts, so wash in delicate cycle or front loader.
When I find a tick on me it is usually dead, I find them on my socks dead, ha ha, that's a good tick.
