How many yards away from the paper do you need to stand to eliminate showing archer's paradox as part of the bare shaft paper-tear?

My draw length is only 23". The bow is marked 40# @ 28"

C -

5 yards. And paradox isn't an issue, since a tuned arrow's tail will follow it's head.

And ... bare shafting and paper tuning are two different things. Not necessary or suggested to do them together.

Viper out.

C,If you think you are close to spine weight for the bow you are shooting with proper point weight shoot a 3 shot group at 15 yds with fletched arrows. Then shoot a bare shaft.Bare shaft should be right in that group even at 20 yds. If nock end of arrow is to the left your spine is to weak.If your nock end of arrow is to the right then you are to strong.By trying different point weights you can make that bare shaft tune straight and in the same group.Simplest way to tune a bow for me.Buy field points that go from 125 gr 150 gr 175 gr 200 grain. This is bare shaft tuning. When you screw a broadhead of the same weight as your field point that arrow should be traveling straight and true, and you are ready for the hunt.JMHO

Thank you for the replies. I just looked at the diagrams on the GoldTip website for both paper tuning and bare shaft tuning. The paper tuning directions seem to be geared more toward compound setups.

On a less windy day I'll try 1000 and 900 spine glue-in-point arrows at 15 yards. I can't find any spine weight less than 800 that accepts screw-in points.

@ C ? MY CONFUSE? What's up with 1000 and 900 spine glue in points? I don't recognize 1000 or 900 grains as points or arrow spines? Total ignorance alert? Clue me in? Batman

Batman...I think he may be talking about arrows like the Vector 1000..I think it is.

Hold your bow vertically when you paper tune if you want an easier to decipher result.

Agree with Bassman but don't try to read nock orientation in a target. It's completely unreliable, and too readily affected by target medium.

If the bare shaft impacts left of the fletched they are stiff, if it impacts right they are weak.

12 to 15 feet / 4 to 5 yards.

I've always heard and used the distance of arrow 6 feet from the paper when drawn. Never seen anything but correct results either.
