I have a 57 Polar coming from an auction win. This is not the dual shelf version. Semi recurve and 40#. The price was very reasonable. Any love for these old cheap bows?

I have a 62 Polar, 66". I was just shooting it the other day, what a shooter. Smooth and fast. Shoots well for me.

They're the Hilton line of target now made by bear back in the sixties. I have a friend that has a 65 and he loves it.

57 is my favorite

The really old Polars were reflexed longbows.Hand shocky.Then they came out as brightly colored target bows later which were poo-poo'd by collectors and not valuable.In recent years they've acquired some collector status and the longer larger risers make for some pretty smooth shooters.

The semi-recurve design is what I was referring to.

Never seen another bow like it. Crazy tillering but it works.

Some of them have great woods

I have a 50’s something, red glass, white tips wide enough to use bow as a walking stick. Crazy tiller as said above. I was told by a bowyer thatis called “breasted” tiller. I never heard of that before but i figure he knows more about tiller than I ever will. Yes it shoots, it is 44#. The leather grip and side plate are toast.

I have a 66" Zebra wood with cream colored glass front and back.No idea of the year but I find myself picking it up more often than other bows.>>>----> Ken

I used to own a 1959 Polar ( 64” amo, 47#@28”), a semi-recurve design. It was pretty zippy. I liked the way it shot, but I sold it- I think to a leatherwaller. I draw near 30” and I was getting near 53# draw weight. It was a bit more than I really wanted at that early stage of my archery shooting ( wish it was 45#@30”, would’ve kept it). Felt svelte in the hand- very nice handling.

There is a YouTube video about early tv Johnny Carson shooting a bow on either his first show “ who do you trust?” or “ the Tonight show” in NY ( early tv career). He was evidently an accomplished archer back in his teens in Nebraska. He shot a Polar bow on that shoot/ show. Must be a good bow if Johnny used it .

I have 1962 66in Polar zebra wood cream color glass nice shooter

I have a 48pounder and 51pounder, both 64" dual shelves from 56. I love them. Very forgiving,they shoot wood, aluminum, and carbons with equal enthusiasm. Nybubba.

I disagree with 4nolz@work. I don[t notice any handshock in my '62 polar. It's 61#

Up until last week when it broke, I had a 1956 dual shelf Bear Polar. It was easily my favorite bow to shoot. I’m on the lookout right now for a replacement in 70# or higher. Right now I’m shooting a 57 Bear Kodiak which is nice, but I prefer shooting a 56 Polar.

Is it wrong to call the dual shelves "bi-polar"? Nybubba

My club has a 1956 64" dual shelf that hasn't been shot in a very long time. Needs a string and new shelf/side plate material. Thinking about buying it from them, and getting busy with it.

Very underrated bows. I have had 4 of them and all were great shooting bows. I think the 59' Polar was my favorite followed closely by the 57'/58' Polars.

She came in the mail today. Shot the little bow for quite a while. Great bow!! Can't believe how cheap they are. Hardly a mark on her and original rest & strike plate.

I had a 1957 which was a great bow. I currently have 2 1956 dual shelves which are a hoot to shoot. I also have a 1953/1954 reflex longbow. It's not as smooth as my other longbows, but still great fun to fling arrows with. I look forward to seeing your pics!
