Last night, I shot my Hoyt PM2 to warm up. It's 30 pounds and has duel stabilizer rods on it. I enjoy shooting it. After I was good and warmed up, I shot my Drake Hunter-Flight at 45 pounds. I noticed immediately the superiority of the Holy Grail of Bows. The Drake is faster, pound for pound, quieter and has none of the limb vibration the Hoyt possesses. In spite of a physical weight less than half of the Hoyt, it's a more accurate shooting bow. The grip is also better. All in all, I noticed the Drake is a superior bow. Within a week, I should be shooting my 47 pound Bear TD, and that bow is superior to the Drake!

That's good to hear that you're back to being able to shoot the Drake! And apparently that voodoo curse of inaccuracy that I cast on that Hoyt back when you surreptitiously acquired just can't be shaken. That's good to know!

From: Muddyboots

So, the Drake is 50% heavier than the Hoyt, and is pound for pound faster. So, the Drake is 50% faster than the Hoyt? Impressive.

From: RonG
Date: 11-Jun-18

Yes, The Drake is 15lbs heavier and it shoots faster..mmmmmmmm!

I hope you weren't shooting the same arrows with both bows.

Good luck with your Bear.

From: tonto59
Date: 11-Jun-18

Good luck with the Bear T/D this year Joe. One thing for sure. You won't have any trouble selling the Drake or the Hoyt PM in the classifieds here. ;-) A lot of Drake and Hoyt PM fans on here. My guess would be. The Hoyt PM would sell first though. Hope you shake that VooDoo curse soon! Shoot straight!

Absolutely Drakes are better. Why even bring it up like this Joe you pot stirrer

How long have you been off the Cat nip now Joe? Are you rehabilitated?

Is he Kerry? LOL

Wonder if a different type of string would help the Hoyt out? I'm pretty sure that if JOE sells anything it will be the Hoyt. The DRAKE & the BEAR will stay with him!

From: grizz
Date: 11-Jun-18

I wouldn't give twenty dollars for a barrel full of both. Sell both and buy another Bear. Of course, you'd probably need a little extra cash.

From: grizz

Oops, did I leave this off? ;-)

From: T4halo

The Drake will shoot better than the overpriced Bear. You wasted money on that one.

Now, the Bear is quieter, smoother and faster than the Drake. It too has a great grip. I've only shot it 9 times, so I'm not 100% certain, but I think the Bear I own (not yours) might be the greatest bow of all time! I think Bear put something special into the limbs, knowing it was going to the "last of the true hunters."

Joe

From: olddogrib

Yes, I think Fred might have wiped it off the bottom of his boot and some of it got on the limb by accident, lol!

From: Lost arrow
Date: 11-Jun-18

Well...well...well. The Minnesota Maniac is eventually going to compare two of the greatest bows ever made to a ugly contraption held together by a pair of 1949 Plymouth hood hinges. What a disgusting announcement. Buy the way, shoulder injuries due to shoveling snow is almost nonexistent in WV. Not that we don’t have snow but we have a machine that probably isn’t available around Austin Minnesota. It’s called a snow blower. When used instead of a shovel it allows you to shoot your bow all year.

From: RymanCat
Date: 11-Jun-18

James I think Joe hasn't learned about performance strings yet? He needs to so he can get even more performance out of any bow he might shoot.

From: Brad Lehmann
Date: 11-Jun-18

You know, there's nothing quite like arguing about which is the best bow......sixty years after the fact. I really enjoy these time warp threads.

Somebody needs to drop by Joe's place with a truly fine state of the art 2018 bow and watch his jaw drop when he shoots it. Just imagine how awesome he would be with modern equipment. Or, maybe not.

From: Lost arrow
Date: 11-Jun-18

Somebody needs to stop by his place and drop off a snowblower.

From: Frisky
Date: 11-Jun-18

I'm going to ask my sister if I can use her snowblower next year. I can't take any more shoulder damage. It took until now to heal, and I'm not 100%. Maybe 90%. She has a snowblower that just sits in her garage all winter, as she hires people to shovel out her place.

My Bear has a FF string, and it's a good one. My Bear has 2018 limbs. These are the best they've made, and mine were made special for the Legend of the North. Bear didn't fool around with these limbs!

Joe

From: nrthernrebel05
Date: 11-Jun-18

It's good to see the "Legend" , at least in his mind, back and stirring things up again. Hope the other 10% gets here soon for you Joe

From: Mountain Man
Date: 11-Jun-18

Well olr Frisky would probably get to 100% from his injury if he would just stop pat'n himself on the back all the time

From: RymanCat
Date: 11-Jun-18

How old is your sista Joe? Show us a picture. Joe not all FF strings are created equal ya know. Skinny string like 8 to 10 strands and padded loops and she will do the huckle Buck. You should see a considerable difference. You want me to look for a string for you? I should have some.

From: Frisky
Date: 11-Jun-18

My bow strings are just fine. I'm not one of these guys who are always searching for the easy way out. Tree stands, pop-ups, scents and on and on....

From: Jason D

I agree Joe!

My 1964 Drake Hunterflight is more accurate (and likely faster) than my Hoyt Pro- Medalist! Likely several other target bows too!

Not as fast or accurate as yer though I'm sure given you have that magical maple thingy in yer riser!

From: Barber

Frisky , hate to tell you this but that Hoyt is the best Recurve you own. I’m a Hoyt recurve fan all the way . Doesn’t matter if your talking old bows or new bows. Your bows are Hoyt number 1 , Drake 2 , and Bear 3. Sorry my friend but that’s just how it is. : )

From: Frisky
Date: 12-Jun-18

I'm gonna have to agree with Jason on this one. My PM2 is noticeably shocky. Not bad, but it's there. It's got a big grip and is a little clunky, kind of like a Clydesdale, while the Drake is a thoroughbred.

Joe

From: crookedstix
Date: 12-Jun-18

I notice a gentle "thud" at the end of each shot with my own Hoyt PM, which I suspect is coming from the stabilizers dampening any vibtration or movement. But--it shoots very tight groups for me with almost no horizontal variation.

That said, there's nothing better for accuracy than shooting the bow you have the most faith in. Friky's Bear is bound to become his best--he will have it no other way! And then there's a chance we will hear about it...

From: Lost arrow
Date: 12-Jun-18

Frisky... My 2PM is zero “ shocky”. You probably don’t know how to hold it. Secondly, I’m heading west in a few days. I may alter my route and swing by Austin. If I do I’ll drop off a battery start snowblower and a wood chipper to throw that ridiculous Bear TD in. I’m sure it will spit those hideous hinges out. Even a wood chipper knows that kind of mechanical stuff has no place on a traditional bow.

From: Frisky
Date: 12-Jun-18

I'll be gone with my Bear. I plan to find a campground in northern Nebraska where I can shoot my Bear during the day and observe the heavens at night. Their motto is "Where the Milky Way casts a shadow."

From: Lost arrow
Date: 12-Jun-18

Great idea. You don’t want people around Austin watching you shoot that piece of garbage. In Nebraska you won’t know the folks making fun of you.

Sell the bear and buy a snow blower. Sell the drake and the hoyt and buy a howatt hi speed or a red wing hunter

I thought about this some more and any of the Super D's were hard to beat and don't think I could even when I favor drakes.

Take what Joe says with a grain of salt when he don't even know what a high performance string does for a bow.LOL

I 2nd that if he thinks that his Bear is the Real Macoy. He needs to be learned or take the Cat nip off him so he can settle down.LOL

From: Frisky

I know bows. I know recurve bows quite well and know when a bow is special. I also know when I'm shooting a dog. The slightest bit of vibration in the hand disqualifies a bow from greatness. The slightest bit of hand movement on the grip disqualifies a bow from greatness. A slightly slower arrow disqualifies a bow. Too long or too short is grounds for a disqualification. Noise above a whisper is disqualified. The Bear TD has none of this nonsense. I think the new Bear is probably the finest bow in the world, bar none!

Nimrod, "Mighty hunter unto the Lord' other transcripts say 'A mighty into the face of the lord' as in, opposition too. Genesis 10, I believe. Also known in other writings as Gilgamesh. Evil ruler of Babylon. Saw a bunch of lights in the sky, amateur astronomer, and decided that a great power was coming to defeat him, so he ordered that all male babies of all pregnant women where to be killed. hi head servant Terah's wife was pregnant, he swept his baby with another to be killed and hid his baby from Nimrod, that baby was Abraham, as Abraham came into power old Nimrod was indeed meeting his the superior that was a threat to him. Speaking of seeing lights in the sky, I was observing Saturn, in the wee hours of the morn, and I saw globular clusters M22 and M28. M22 is the finest glob I've seen! I also saw the Ring Nebula and Omega Nebula.

Joe

From: Timbukto

This all is starting to make sense Frisky is a ET sent to earth by the overlords. His mission convince all the archers that darkest and bear takedowns are where it is at. While they buy up all the howatts. In a attempt to control the bow market. I think there behind Martin's decline. Their invading army's would be no match for a army of mamba wielding archers.

From: Frisky
Date: 13-Jun-18

To be honest, Howatts, in general, are pretty bows. However, they usually have these crappy, bladed grips, and they aren't anything to brag about in the speed or smoothness department. I consider them to be good bows, but they aren't in the same league as Drakes or the new Bear TD.

Joe

From: Lost arrow
Date: 13-Jun-18

I asked this in another related thread many months ago. Can that bloomin’ telescope see far enough to reveal when you might actually shoot the Bear contraption TD? I don’t have a telescope but I can clearly see you are afraid to shoot it. Disappointment, disgust, despair will be the result but the leatherwall will never know it. In one of the weakest moments in my life I bought a Chevy truck. Had it delivered to the house. Ran my mouth for days about how great it was but couldn’t muster up enough courage to drive it. Knew I had made a mistake. Sold it to a coal miner. He had it to the dealership 3 times in 10 days. Sell that TD and move on.

From: longbowguy

Frisky, Re yr 'shocky' Hoyt Pro Medalist. I have been able to get all of mine over the years to shoot sweetly and quietly with a rather low brace height, around 8.5". That is with 15 strand dacron strings.

I could get a bit more speed with skinnier strings or fast flight ones, but they are fast enough as they are, for me. In my hands they are the most pleasant to shoot of the many bows I have owned, and very accurate. My all time best field archery scores, world class, came from its younger brother, the Hoyt Gold Medalist, but it never felt as sweet to me. So I went with sweetness and have shot 10s of thousands of arrows from my Pro Medalists, and my Howard Hill longbows.

Nowadays I shoot mostly for the pure pleasure of it. - lbg

From: Frisky
Date: 13-Jun-18

The problem displayed here is obvious. Those who disagree with my infallible statements are those who have never shot the bows in question. All you have to do is shoot a Drake and a PM2, side by side, and the difference is obvious.

Joe

From: longbowguy
Date: 13-Jun-18

Well, some of the difference may be that some people do not know how to tune a Pro Medalist. And that some people are so fixed in their current beliefs that they are unwilling to learn anything new. - lbg

From: Frisky
Date: 13-Jun-18

LOL! I think I've done a good job tuning that clunker. I remember the first time I shot it, I thought it broke! It was as loud as a .22! I raised the brace height, and it quieted down nicely. It's a good shooting bow. It's just not in the same class as a Drake Hunter-Flight.
